What a bummer that they had that scuba guy out there waiting for Jamie to round the last buoy and making him fall ..

DJ

That was no scuba guy, that was Svein Rasmussen.

how's lenny kai. your not suppose to be really good at surfing and racing. now thats a freak i reckon

thats kind of an odd statement...there are plenty of those top guys that are very good at both, an I can see a definite corrolation between the 2. And its going to be really interesting to see the results of future races if they ever come to a beach here with real surf conditions to paddle in and out of.......

no way, kai did well in a race 2 weeks ago, flatwater and dana point or whatever it is isn't exactly surf. that shows really paddling ability. sure there are guys good at both, but to be at that level paddling is no lucky i can surf so i can paddle fast routine.

to be that good at surfing- that is his focus and paddle himself into 5 th place is amazing.

I see where your coming from, but at the end of the day he is a professional athlete. All he does is spend time in the ocean, yes he doesnt flat out race train, but he does race train.......his indurance and fittness for all his disciplines cross over and certain natural abilities will always lend themselves to variations of a similar theme. What is impresses me is they guys up there that have a day job to go to.

Not so true Serg the 2nd top Aussie(9th place) Beau O'Brian doesn't surf a SUP but he is a thoroughbred in a outrigger canoe.

There is no doubt Jake has a very bright future ahead of him. Sponsors should be locking this kid up now while he's cheap

I wasnt actually being specific about aussies or top 10, my point was its not exclusive to be only good at one....look at JM, Billy, Danny, Bingo, Paul J, Chuck, just a few of those that can do both really well....and if they do race in actual surf, it will be an advantage to be able to handle the board in and out. Remember the condtions at Kirra last year, not to many BOP's been seen in the likes of that, and that was just a average day at a beach break here........not taking anything away from anyone, I guess Im not as "surprised" as lacey to see some do better than others may have thought....

Damn you Connor Baxter and Brian Szymanski. There's another board I'm going to have to buy.

Did you see Brian Szymanski on his new 17'6" board in the race before?.. That thing looked wicked.

DJ

Make that 2 new boards then.

Luckily SUP SHACK v2 has been built to take 18'. Just put the roof on today so ready to pick up the new 17'6" as soon as it's baked. Mind you, I have no idea what to do with the extra 5' out on the water.
