Yesterday I took my new beach bike for its first ride on a beach.
It's a new 'Fat Bike'.. I never thought I'd be riding a bicycle with bigger and wider tires than my motorbike..
Yesterday I went down to Sorrento back beach to see just how well these bikes that were made for the snow work on soft sand.. and take some pics and vid.
Well I'm rapt.. and as happy as a kid that's just learnt to fart in the bath..
I rode and raced mt bikes for years before sup and I was always frustrated with trying to ride my mt bikes on the beach.. It was such hard work and not worth it.. This thing rolls over soft sand that even walking on is hard work.. Love it.
I can see a quiver caddy on the back solving access problems to some places round here looks good DJ
Hey DJ,
I rode a Surly Pugsley a couple of years ago on a holiday in Japan and came home wishing I could afford more than one bike. There's a vid floating about of a guy riding one through a lake. I see on their website they have a few of that style of bike in their lineup. Must be gaining popularity. Love the names of the products too.
Large Marge rims, too funny.
Sick bike DJ. I reckon a duel suspension model would be sweet. Would you be able to fit those tyres on a standard MTB?
You made it look so easy on the beach. Way too many toys. How do you think it would go on bush tails or if you had to ride 10km on the road? cheers thanks for posting
Phew I would have been bitterly disappointed if one of your photo shoots did not have the fingers around the rails. Happy days
DJ,
Nice bike.
In the video you seemed to stay on the groomed runs, what does it go like in the powder?
I expect MC, WSC & PC will ban them from the Northern Beaches! Too much fun!
Dave
I noticed that the Surly website has a section on caring for your steel frame - oiling the inside.
Nice vid!
Thanks guys.. I'll get to those questions in a sec.. Meanwhile check this out.. Try doing this in a normal mt bike..
