Aren't they awesome ! Surfed one tonight in a 2ft and they just rip. Turn on a dime, hold their turns better than anything else out there and just so stable on the wave.
Can't wait to get one over to bali

Hey Danny
My board is 6'8 and so easy to travel with.
I will never ride a pointy board again. As you say they are so stable and surf on rails much better. They go even better in big waves.
I find I can cross over to a surfboard easier too because the size difference is minimal.
I risked taking only one paddle this time. I normally take my feather weight carbon paddle and a back up bullet proof 5 ton paddle but this time,I only
electrical taped on my handle so when packing my equipment I could take the handle off and slide some PVC conduit over the shaft. Worked a treat.

Nice shots mate, you tried a Tomo SB? They are amazing especially the new Vader. The SUP versions would be unreal by the sounds, looks good in the pics!

Hey Goatman
Haven't tried the tomo SB yet.
I think Rod basically blew one up to a SUP size then incorporated his years of fish board designs into it, complete with a flex tail.
Tom Carrol mentioned him in his book saying Rod shaped one of the best boards he's owned.

Curious on what brand that is and spec. 6'8" is small that's for sure. At 100kg the 7'8" looks like it will do me for a while when I get around to getting one.
If you get a Kenalu you can take the handle/paddle off with a hair drier and don't have to risk the electric tape.

Looks like you had a blast!

Hey Tang
Yes I am a fat bastard at 98 to 100 kg's.
The board is 6'8 x 27.5 x 4.5.
Made by Surf Shapes. Rod is semi retired so you may have to wait a while if you are after one. BUT WORTH THE WAIT.

Yeah Piros
Unfortunately the void created by taking a small board was soon filled up with excessive fishing gear.

Thanks smitty, also wondering how much foam is in it and how tall you are, mate - thanks.
a photo of the board would be good if you have time. Can't quite see it all over in the shots. Looks like it surfs alright.

Here is my Surf shapes flex tail quiver 7'6 pocket rocket and 6'6 mutant or the dunny door as I call it. These boards cover me from ankle snapper dribbling beaches to way over head point break thumpers!!!

Hey Beerssup
Nice Quiver. Ive got a 6"8 fridge door and I reckon I could down size to a dunny door.
Have you tried the fins in the back boxes yet?

Good photos beersup,
now for a few questions etc.

have either you or smitty ridden a minion to compare it?

the dunny door is really wide at 75cm (29 1/2"), especially for its length, and wondering how this affects it's ability to bite at speed?

The dunny door also seems to have a pretty flat bottom in the nose - does it catch waves well?

it seems to also have a lot of foam in the swallow tail - does this affect the tail rail biting thru turns?

there's a start!

cheers

From what Rod has told me I reckon you could handle the reduction in length, not sure how wide you are willing to go though could be a rocky ride at 28' wide. Haven't played with the fins yet just loven it the way it is but might give them a twitch next decent swell

Thanks Tang, haven't ridden a minion and for 1800 hungie for 7 odd foot of epoxy don't think I want to no offence just bit pricey for me , I am vertically challenged 5 '10 but make up for that with amble beer induced resting muscle 97kgs also my main spot is a point break with heavy backwash when bigger so foam is my friend, I have no trouble putting it on rail. I don't have any trouble catching waves especially on windy days its short length doesn't get caught up in the wind allowing for a quick entry and have never came close to nose diving yet. I have had other boards (a Coreban) with a wide tail and it did have trouble as you say bitting but with this board no dramas not sure why maybe its the flex tail. The flex tail is made up with a separate rubber block attached to a thin section of the board and makes it feel alive. When I first saw this shape I called hoax with all the question you are asking I just thought what a dog of a thing. Then I rode one and said F%$# I want one, it is the fastest most manoeuvrable sup I have ridden. Hope I answered you questions Tang

Hey Tang
My first turn on one of these boards was a 7'3 Gulliver shaped by Azza. It was a bit hard to balance on but on a wave it was fast and turned easily.
I have not tried a minion but I saw a few at the Aussie titles. Casso and I had a couple of (door off) heats together.
I rode the starboard 8'0 pro for a while but when I got on the 6'8 fridge door the starboard started to collect dust.
I am 98 to 100 kg like beerssup and find this board sooo stable.
I am no longer doing dish pan turns and I am surfing much more on rail. The harder you push these boards the better they go.
No troubles paddling in and as you can see by my photo's at the start of this topic, the board loves being on a rail.
After a couple of surfs you don't really feel the width in the tail.
Hope this helps.
P.S. do you know anyone who wants to buy a starboard??

Flex tail does work making the rail following the flow and disapear width tail as well as yours both foot well centered on deck and tail are doing the rest of it
Keep on surfing your fridge door, your desserve a cool beer after that, Smiity

here links of topics talking about , this first one is from Boardbumps did with passion and developement on flex with the SunFish which finally done the FridgeDoor surfing by Smitty on this topic:

www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/SUP/Sub-7ft-SunFish-SUP/

And what i have done for passion as well fun.
www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/Review/FLEXTAIL/?page=2

IMO, the main reason to gear up a board with flex tail is to allow the rail to dig without reducing width of the tail .
This way can have some width for stability and still dig rails

Bl00dy hell, I think we need a rebel demo day for all these unreal looking "underground" label boards that aren't from the big manufacturers. Maybe make that a weekend...somewhere there's sup friendly point break like....like....anyway, it's got potential.

Thanks for for the info gents, you're making the choice for my next board harder than ever.
cheers
