It's all about just having fun on the water. The paint job just sets it off. Good on you for having a go.
OP, I applaud your efforts and your enthusiasm for sharing your first build and welcome you to seabreeze. shoot me a PM.
I'm shocked at the arrogant and ignorant comments from some of the members here. DJ in particular, I would have expected more from you then "Don't mean to be rude.. but.. if Fred Flintstone had a sup board that would be it."
"Just checking.. It's not April the 1st is it?"
Don't mean to be rude.. but.. if Fred Flintstone had a sup board that would be it.. I know someone who once made their first board.. He called that board Mr Lumpy.. Your board reminds me of that board..
You might find that the paddling straight thing is often more a technique thing rather than a fin thing.
Try standing slightly more forward so the tail is just starting to lift from the surface of the water.. Try taking shorter paddle strokes and don't bring the paddle much past your feet.. and try putting more weight on the same rail side that you are paddling on.
If this fails you need to remove your fin and put in normal fin box so you can try different fins till you find one that works.. Adding side fins might help.
Just checking.. It's not April the 1st is it?.. .. Do you have a pic of your paddle? .. I can just imagine what it's like..

Smily faces and all, it was rude and insensitive....shame on you!
You have lost my respect.

Here it is all painted! tell me what y'all think!
Mate you just need to whack some Starboard stickers on it and Conner Baxter will paddle it to glory in Hawaii.
Then everyone will want one.
Good on you for having a crack at what I'm sure is a difficult craft.
There is a new brand in town, introducing the Yabadabado!!!!!!

Thanks man! glad you enjoyed my first build.
But on a real note I dont mind people expressing how they feel about the board, none offense taken. And I'm sure DJ had no intention of offending me just clearly stating he has very high expectations for first builds lol.
+1 Supstyle. Can't believe the negativity.
Thanks! and it's all good, the negativity regarding the shape of the board gave me some motivation to do a kick ass paint job!!
Hey j13urton - good onya mate. Good to see you took it all in the manner in which it was meant (ie; lighthearted humour). I'm sure you'll get hours of enjoyment riding something you built with your own hands.

As for logman, Supstyle and the 'precious' red thumbers .. It's a pity you guys have to tolerate your lives without a sense of humour.
Hey SUPSTYLE, I hope your joking.
Plenty of support and positive feedback for this post as far as I can see.
Don't forget that this is an Australian forum and us Aussies can have a whacky sense of humour sometimes.
That doesn't mean that we are rubbishing this guy.
Put your Avatar into practice and "Hang Loose".
Have fun and SUP.
Cheers.

Hey J man I see you went with the sneaky side fin, how is it tracking now? Not having a go here, genuinely interested...
j13urton, since it seems to be your first glassing job, I would suggest you check the board thoroughly for micro pinholes that could let the air out ... and the water in. This is a very common problem.
putting it in the sun with a film of soapy water is a good way to find them, look for the bubbles.
Inspired; my new shooter!
Bro that looks sick!
turned out really good is that your first build? and how much glass what oz glass did you use?

Yeah i decided to go with the thruster setup. it's defiantly helps keep me straight. But I took CJ's advice and changed up my paddling technique and that has improved my tracking a lot! props to you CJ!

So i tried this and got a couple bubbles on the top close to wear i made the handle. I'm guessing this means water is entering the board while I'm out on the water, what do you recommend doing?

Yeah mate, your highly developed "sense of humour" went straight over my head.
J13urton, don't worry about water getting into the board. Extruded polystyrene is a closed cell so it's really won't take in water like old foam does. Sure it will leak a bit, but don't worry about it.

Yep...it did.
J13, make sure it's dried out, then get some white sanding sealer and give the area a good couple of coats. Sand off excess and finish with your topcoat. As log man said, it's not going to affect your board much short term but you would be better off if you have a fully sealed board.
I think a matching blue pair of crocs would b a wonderful accessory to the graphics

Holy **** Burton! I am out Googling around for some tips on shaping the HomeDepot SUP and I run across this thread... I am dying laughing. Maybe you should drink some more beers when you shape? Or not rush. I will be finishing up my board here over the next few weeks. This kid and I started this project jokingly as a while back with zero surf experience so you guys will get two different takes and and methods on this.
Cheers
Bili
Oh yeah why is your screename not Butthurtin?
Hahaha dude I came all the way to the Australian forum and you still find me! It's no fair you get to use all the power tools in the hanger all i used was an axe while wearing my blue crocs. And yes if you must know a lot of Fosters beer was being drunk while crafting this master piece.
BTW I like how ya threw the pics of the Grumman in there.
Here it is all painted! tell me what y'all think!
I like the paint job, very nice
Next board you build ask a few questions on here, a few guys have shaped their own boards. Also the longbboard forum has a few build threads in it as well.
Keep it up
I am sure someone will get a kick outta this
Dude you forgot rod holders
(edit: does Frank Castle fish?)
