Over the last 6+ months my business SUP Fitness Australia, has been focusing on teaching/training/coaching groms from aged 5.

The response has been overwhelmingly positive from both the kids and parents. Through game based paddling activities the kids are progressing extremely well and their fitness levels have soared.

Kids are like sponges: they adapt to the sport very quickly and easily and their technique puts a lot of adults to shame.

I have a fleet of kids sup boards and paddles making it more easier for them and popping them on a 12'6 for sprints has been pretty cool to watch.

They are the future of our sport. IF you have a child/niece/nephew/grandchild
get them out on your board. You might be pretty surprised of how quick they out paddle most adults!

If if you're ever on the the Sunny coast pop into one of of my daily Kids on SUP sessions.

Lucifer is very happy with your efforts

I think a SUP is awesome for kids if there are no waves, like paddling around flat water or down wind coz not everywhere has waves available unfortunately. However if you are not in a flatwater situation, a normal surfboard is way better for kids. There are also some very nice soft surfboards available for kids perfect to learn to surf on...even a bodyboard/boogeyboard would be better as its conductive to learning to read the ocean. The most important thing you can learn prior to surfing. Balance helps, but really, laying on a boogey board reading a wave speed/dirrection/ posiotion your place to be to catch that wave is a great 1st step

We have around 15 junior members in our club(4670 SUP CLUB INC) from 9 to 13 years of age.. We do junior only paddles and coaching sessions covering all the basics from leg rope maintenance to fins, cleaning boards down, Water saftey, etiquette etc etc... the sport is exploding and we are doing our best to educate the next generation of paddleboarders in our area so they can all paddle safely in the future, we even had one of our 12 year old girls get through to the semi final in the open women's SUP at the Surfing Qld Agnes Water competition last weekend.. check out our face book page for photos

Just a question
But when will everybody be satisfied with the amount of people surfing
When will it be enough
When every man, woman and child has some sort of contraption to take into the line up will that be enough?
These days it's really only two scenarios when I don't paddle out
When it's flat or overcrowded
We all surf for fun but it's not much fun when you paddle out and it's like twenty games of water polo going on at the same time

Wether we like it or not populations are increasing and therefore so are numbers in the water. I live in an area where quality waves are only on offer occasionally so SUP is very popular to be able to extract as much as you can out of quite ordinary waves. We can all sit there looking miserable in the line up or sit there at home whinging and bitching on forums or in my opinion maybe give back a little and try to help educate the next generation. We saw a growing group of beginners hitting the waves locally with no direction. By setting up a club and educating our members we are at least teaching newbies how to behave and doing a little bit to make the line ups safer and more enjoyable...
