Sorry for delay in answering some of the questions posted here about the race guys, my wife delivered us a new baby boy last night, so been a bit otherwise occupied for last couple days, and haven't had a chance to check out the breeze.

Essentially, there is only one race, but with different categories to try to cater for all paddlers, as well as lap differentiation between Pro/Open and Amateur.

Amateur is for ANY paddler on a SURF (non race style) sup with length 12' or under. In Amateur category, there is no placing or prize differentiation between men or women. Amateurs must complete two full laps of the course to be eligible for prizes.

Pro is for ANY paddler on a 12'6" or under RACE style sup. Paddlers can enter Pro category on a SURF style sup 12'6" or less in length, but must complete the full three laps of the course. Pro category has separate placings and prizes for both men and women, plus the first paddler under 18yrs old (on the day of race) to complete the course.

Open is for ANY paddler on a sup OVER 12'6" and UNDER 14". Due to the format of the course and in consideration of the other categories, sups over 14' or with rudder systems, will not be included. No placing or prize differentiation between men or women in this category. Open paddlers must complete three full laps of the course.

Over 40's is open to paddlers 40years or older on the day of the race on ANY of the above category sups. Placings and prizes are at the discretion of Von Piros Productions. Open paddlers must complete three full laps of the course.

It would be great to see all paddlers start at the same time, but considering the difference in distance between Pro and Am (2laps vs 3laps), it is not necessary and could create problems.

Scotty

sooo amateur over 40 is 2 full laps? surf board under 12 foot?

in the over 40 + are the blokes on the 12'6'' allowed to use sports Enhancing drugs to better their performance against the guys on 14 to have any chance

i have to agree.against guys i train with in our age group- no chance against a 14' at our level and age, well the level in our training group anyway. you would have to be a special to beat a 14' in general conditions
cheers

For the over 40's you can enter on a 14 footer but if you want to enter in Open or Pro as well you must be on a 12-6 max....clear as mud.

So if you are a crusty elite athlete and fancy yourself as a chance in 2 divisions you have to be on a 12-6 and do 3 laps , over 40 is 3 laps so you can't enter amature and over 40. amature is only 2 laps.

Prizes will go down to 5th place in the 40's. For all those without race boards don't worry as it will be a disadvantage in the predicited sloppy N.E conditions , my call is the over 40's will be won on a Surfing SUP

You have got to in it to win it

clear as mud you bet!...since you can enter "open division " on a 14' this would now prevent you to appear in the 40's classification...
Personally I just have a 12'6 so I don't really care....you are the sponsor you decide rob

And don't forget about the SUPSA Cash Can ..... first male and first female to the dedicated can and taps with the paddle after the start in the Elite Race collects $200 cold hard cash to put on the bar at the Kirra Hotel ..... but don't forget, you have to finish the race to collect the cash.

The Kirra Challenge Race course has changed slightly from last posted course plan, and also a few changes have been made on the website regarding race rules and info.

I can't alter the 'Events' and 'News' posts on this site, so visit the link to site below to check out changes.
http://www.greenlinepaddlesurf.com/Green_Line_Paddle_Surf/Latest_Stuff.html

Below is amended course, allowing for a beach start and still having an inside turn (now called the SUPSA Cash Can thanks to the SUPSA crew) on the first lap to put on a good show for spectators.

See you there Sunday,
Scotty

I don't think you will see any hire race boards , due to the carnage around the cans. I have just come fromn Kirra there are fours breaks to get through

So conditions not looking as clean as earlier in the week with the northerlies (seems to be the norm for comps on the Goldy). Definitely will make it interesting though, especially considering the variety of boards that will be there giving it a crack. I think board choice will make or break some, but practise, training and experience always win the day.

If anyone still needs a board give me a pm or call to arrange. Still have a 14' and couple of Novice boards available but will need to organise before 7 in morning.

The crew from Endura have supplied some product (bottles included) to hydrate all the thirsty paddlers, which will be available at the sign-in tent before and after the race. We will have water available too.

We will be down there early in the morning and should be set up and ready to go by 7-7.30 for anyone keen for an early sign in to give time for bit of practice.

See you there,
Scotty

It was a great event. So stoked I entered, did no good, a bit dissapointed with some errors but safe to say that it planted a bug for me.

Must say that I was kind of shocked how competitive the amateur division was.

Got to watch the finish of the pros though, what a great morning, when's the next one?
