If I'm not wrong it's the first time a male paddler has won on a production board actually made by their sponsor rather than Hawaiian made custom.....

Stoked to work with this bunch of guys! Yessssss!

And if im not mistaken I have the only unl board in australia that is similar to travis 's winning sitting in my garage.

Yep, so basically what we can see here is that if a board can pass what is known within world racing circles as "The Currumbin Creek test" it's probably got the goods to win on a world level.

There is a full press release online already in some places but basically the board Trav paddled was an evolution from a board he tested last year which was 'faster than a OC1' but he found the nose to bury a bit in big bumps.

The team developed a new adjustable steering system that you can adjust the amount of movement of the rudder versus the pedal movement and modified the board to keep the speed but be better in the big stuff. It was sent with a clear message to Travis. 'Unless it's the fastest board you can find to paddle for the race do not use it', he tested it a bunch before the race and said it was without a doubt faster than any other board he could do the race on. Of course it's better if Trav paddles a production board that can be sold but not as important as him winning the race, how could you ever tell someone that trains so hard and tried so hard to win to use the product if it's actually going to be a disadvantage?

With that all said Alain, Travis and Dale can be super proud that what they have created is a board that helped him to glide and get every bump in that flat ocean to keep going long enough to win when other people were or wanted to pull out.

I spoke to Dale today (he was on Trav's support boat with Travs wife) and he said that Travis was delirious and was basically paddling for bumps when Dale yelled at him to do so. They blasted Reggae and techno the whole way across and yelled at him and cheered for every single bit by bit achievement. It's a team effort and today Travis' team was on point.

So stoked that a few blokes from Currumbin (that includes the Frenchy that technically lives in Byron) can get something happening that makes the whole world sit up and take notice.

Awesome insight..
Well done lads.

Probably not one of the oc1's Trav designed. Maybe an old fibreglass Jeffrey.

hows the time with no wind the year before trav did 4;09.15 that was 5 min behind conner record which i think was still a record this year 4;59 thats a lot of water in front of you that time .boys were still partying hard drinks on the bar not sure who was paying think NSP could be a big tab with the Aussies in the bar

Haha, yeah... Not faster than an OC1 with Travis on it... I should have said Travis said he was paddling with 1 mans on the Hawaii Kai run and passing them.. I am assuming they were paddled by humans, not super humans like Travis, Danny and co. Either way Travis was also shocked:

I spoke to Dale to try to get in and see him about a new unlimited. Unfortunately he was leaving on that day to head over to Hawaii...

Jeez, i hope given this win that the price doesn't go up - but if it does, i hope he remembers that i called him BEFORE he left!!

That should make for interesting racing 10 people on the exact same board. One design racing at its best

Bloody Westerners.
I think Unlimited is going to take off.
Especially after the reports from the race in Cairns in June.

Won't IronPhil be happy!!!

I took the only aussie travis nsp board for a run in light winds today. over all the time against my 14 was about the same except I had a higher top speed and its a easier paddled

that pretty impressive in its self . most other unlimited are very limited in light winds.

the feeling and agility of the board is very good and it very easy to steer the board around without rudder use.

I started with unlimited boards. my first board was an old Kelly margetts dc 16.

will be good to see the unlimited scene fire up again

Aussies killing it so far. Trav. Linc. Matty.

Connor sounds ill and out of it.
Kai not on a naish but a custom exact same as Trav won on in 2013.
Trav's new alain/dale combo sounds like a weapon. Maybe Trav is the weapon!!

IronPhil must be hating the flat conditions! Drink more beer at the finish line PHIL it will take the pain away

G'day AndyR our 3 Man Team got a second Podium Finishing I'm SO STOKED I had a major back injury Mark had a dislocated shoulder Chris was the strongest of us all full story and video coming soon I drank myself sober I had around 25 Stubbies of Coronas I had to reward my body after punishing it on the Kai'wi Channel I feel asleep talking story sitting up in a chair at good mate Blair Thorndike's place at 11:00 pm I just could not drink anymore beer it was up to my throat in beer already

3 Man Team on the way to Molokai iRONPHIL, Chris Pagdilao and Mark Raaphorst.

Hanging with two LEGENDS on Molokai Buzzy Kurbox with Blair Thorndike pre M2O dinner

Wishing Sonni all the best at the M2O starting line you go girl and yes Sonni won the Female Unlimited M2O for the second year in a row on a V2 Bullet was the board of choice in those Brutal conditions, I love you Sonni you're a weapon of an Athlete

My Aussie mates at the M2O finish line thanks for the beers boys to kind.

The next day surfing with good mate Blair & Dave at Rice Bowls in front of the Outrigger Canoe Club it was pumping 4-6ft I got some bombs surfed for like 3 hours I borrowed a board of Blair an 8ft semi gun it was fun taking some big drops.

I've been saying that for years Unlimited all the way, Aussie's are just so slow thanks to the SUP shop dealers it's all about the sale.
Unlimited boards a way more fun, I've never paddle a 14ft SUP to this day why punish yourself, unless you're young or an Elite sponsored SUP rider.

Wait until you see my new 18'2'' Unlimited that Simon from Dolphin is shaping me for Australian condition can't wait already, it will be fast.

On ya Phil well done mate. You have actually got me motivated so myself Ross Hassum & Brett Williams are putting in a 3 man team next year . It's been 25 years since I first paddled across the channel. I sent you a PM give me a call when you can.

Hey Pete Clarky is keen for a team as well and looks like you will see a few more unlimited boards floating around the Goldie next few weeks. Can't wait to see your new one.

With DC shaping and Dolphin, there will be some great locally made boards.

I will see about the category for 12 Towers. then there's the W.A. races and Cairns in June.

Then off to Hawaii

Spoke to Dale today he is getting heaps of orders boards not available in Aus until December and there will be a 27 wide model as well for the factory production DC/NSP or Dale can make one to the same specs or wider if you want. But he already has a bunch of custom orders , so stoked for him.

Yeah I reckon you'll see the 2 big races in west aus getting more and more unlimiteds. If they weren't our qualifiers for the Nationals I'd be on a big board for sure. Those two races are perfect for unlimiteds.
