nice work by the aussies guys -jamie,phil, woogie and jacko
wonder where that puts phil in his age bracket

fantastic result for billy against those guys on their home turf

i'm really pleased for jacko and woogie to get what looks like 3rd in the teams over ll- i've watch jacko train relentlessly for this, even when his leg was still crook

waiting for the girls results

This is an awesome display by the Aussies, which obviously includes Jamie.

Hopefully next year we can step it up another notch and have more Aussies on the podium. Like I said before - it's not out of the question.

Saw on facebook about Riggs Napolean being the youngest competitor at 12 years old, and also a paraplegic and a guy with a prosphetic arm, if that is all correct, thats amazing!

the home guys are good, no doubt about that, but australia has some fine paddlers. with more experience, and time, i believe things are looking good.
rumors abound that some of the better oc paddlers around the place are keen to mix it up with some dw sup action
cheers
ps how did the girls go?

just heard from alison.. she was approximatley less than 1 km from the finish when her support boat took off to shore without her. She was only 100 metres behind the other girls when this happened...She got a cramp and didn't have any fluids as the boat took off... she was stranded for about an hour before another boat got to her..she had be blown to far across the bay to get in and couldnt finish, The support boat driver is now black listed for future races.

I think she has done an excellent job- she was so close to finishing - well done Ali!

yes but if conditions are right the SUP should beat him....

Billy came in 8th @ 5:13.27 with Phil only 13 mins behind in 18th @ 5:26.12

Awesome work from the Aussies.....looks like Phil is punching above his age....

Phil definatley deserves his result. He's put so much time and dedication into training for this race- he will be absolutely stoked! well done Phil... I think Scott Trudon will have to change your name from the weapon after all!

I think that you can see this either way: 5th overall or 2nd in his age category. As this is an endurance marathon age is very important, as far as I am concerned. Top endurance athletes only hit their strides in their 30's so what both Conner and Billy achived here is awesome.

Also, as downwind racing is so technical the more experienced ocean paddlers should do better than just those that are gun flat water paddlers. Experience plays a big part - Just look at what both DK and Phil accomplished at their ages!

Exactly what I was thinking Mike. I reckon the younger guys need the protection of the class from the old guys. The older guys win more often than not in most endurance ocean sports so it's great to have the younger classes to keep the up and comers encouraged. It's the opposite to football etc. Youth does not trump experience.

Thats tragic news for Ali what's his name and the name of his boat ? It should be posted on here and on "The Zone" Ali spent thousand's of dollars to do that race so that driver is a dead set arse hole to rob her of crossing the finishing line.

What's the news on Angie ?

you peak in your early twenties power wise. strength, endurance, round about 40 if you keep at it, so these comments are a fair call. but at that age you have to work hard and recovering from training sessions is not going to be like the younger guys. the younger blokes probably go for a surf tomorrow. i'll bet dk and phil wont be doing anything tomorrow

Try telling a 15 year old there going to have to paddle for 25years before they peak,
I reckon there's going to be a bit of disagreement about that,
I'd say because the sport is relatively new and the younger crew have only recently picked it up they need time to gain experience, but give Riggs and Conner Baxter 5 to 10 years racing, they should be in twenties? and this will be their peak and see how they go against late 30 and 40 year olds then.
The other thing that can effect the 20 years age bracket in amateur sports is focus from other distractions in life [the party age] where as the 20 year old pro athlete gets paid mega bucks to make sure they stay focused[still doesn't always happen though].
Five to ten years in training in a chosen sport the body peaks IMHO and best from late teens through to twenties.

Flame suit on .

and well done to the Aussies in the Molokai race.

I'm not really up on this stand up paddle racing but to me the true Athletes are the people that do this race lone ranger, I personally could not even attempt it.
So to Allison, unbelievable effort first time out. With some proper coaching and some better Training you'll smash it next year. AWESOME!!

Iron, I don't think there was any doubt you're a machine mate. Congratulations!!

Another Awesome effort by Jamie and Billy.

All these guys make me proud to be a Gold Coaster

hi guys, thanks for the encouragement. Absolutely spewing to get around koko head in good time only to cramp up in my hami and hip about 700m from the finish. I needed more fluids and my boat driver had left me to go to shore and start drinking with his mates when they are suppose to stay with you until the finish. Sat on my board for about an hour trying not to lose ground but by the time i got someone to go in and find my boat captain and get him to relaunch i was too exhausted and dehydrated to make it in.
The last mile once you get around koko head is punishing and can take even the best paddlers 30 minutes plus to get in. You need to stay as close to the headland as possible to get any shelter from the punishing headwind.
A big congrats to all the other aussie paddlers, especially to girls, jas and angie, who won the womens team division. I watched jas paddle the last section into the finish from out the back of the bay and can only imagine how much that race would have hurt with cross wind and no rudders for the teams. They only discovered at the awards ceremony that they were actually competing against another girls team, who were a late entry, but they still came out on top.
Some of you have asked me to name the boat captain but i am not one to name and shame. I spoke with the race director and he will be prevented from escorting this race in the future so no one needs to be concerned. He was very apologetic and realised his mistake and as such refused to accept the balance, 50%, of his escort fee for the race, so some consolation there for me.
Will post more and lots of pictures when i get home later this week, as its too hard to write much using the keypad on my phone.

Sorry to hear about your mishap Ali, bloody amazing effort though, cramps are so debilitating. Even more amazing considering you were out for months with the ankle injury earlier this year. I bet you will be amped for next year now!!

Congrats to all the Aussies, done your yourselves proud!!
