Anyone else as amped as me for the dw tomorrow????
Yew!!!!
cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yep, will be a great day, do a downwind paddle, crack a beer and then watch the poor souls that had to paddle up the creek and back finish.
The long distance will be interesting actually as any South Wind has a habit of funnelling down Currumbin Valley and becoming a stiff headwind the whole way up to Wendts coupled with the outgoing tide as well it will test the fitness of the paddlers. On the way back will be fast though with the wind and tide with you. Lets see who makes the right board choices for a race with a bumpy ocean and a slow and sticky creek.
So No wind to Currumbin. Tide going out and wind picks up for a head wind. Hit Wendt's Bridge and the tide changes and the wind dies.
So where's the best spot to watch this again Chris. Do I bring my own beers???
Lets see who makes the right board choices for a race with a bumpy ocean and a slow and sticky creek.
Are there any reeds on the bank of the Currumbin Creek where one might secretly deposit a flat water race board?

Conditions looked tough with a strong northerly sweep, plenty of waves closing out on the shallow bank and lots of water moving around.
Congratulations to the winners an well done to everyone who did the race, even those who didn't finish did a great job getting out there having a go.
Great to see so many new faces joining the sport since last year!
Congrats to everyone that raced today, definitely some challenging conditions, well done to surfing Qld for a great course. Special shout out to Lincoln Dews taking the double and making the final of the surfing, legend. That is a big result well done.
congrats to all in a tough race.
don't do these races but a keen observer.
conditions reasonable two ft ish beach break style gutter, sand bank, heavy break onto said bank and same shorey. ie not glassy currumbin alley at 6am.
looks like races oz style are going to be mostly held in 'beach break style conditions' not dana point, not currumbin alley, not rainbow bay
it was pretty obvious to those of us watching that if you stayed on your board you would have a result in your class.
everybody was falling because they couldn't stay on their narrow boards in the heavy sandbank conditions on what was really just small/medium typical surf day.
looks like the narrow board bop style doesn't suit oz to me.
again great effort by all the paddlers
( i was exhausted just watching it)
Unless you're a skinny kid like Lincoln streaking away on a 24" wide board
yep, waiting for that. he had just about the perfect race. the rub of the green first up and then just went on with it in a very impressive manner.

Or a board made from carbon.
