This will be a great series of Surfing and Surf race events held by Sup Vic Surf.....

There has been some absolute classic Springtime conditions on the East Coast beach breaks over the last few weeks so with the warmer weather we are in for the best event so far this year, each one gets "betterer"!

Look forward to catching up with all the mongrel crew

The whole sup thing is starting to develop a definite canine undertone, not unlike the rap language of the USA, ie. "What up Dawg?" "I be chillin Dawg". As for feral underdog, I'll get someone knowledgable to sniff your arse to establish your rank in the pack!! I've had the two best days of surfing in twenty years in the last two days at 13th. I've discovered a bank about a 600 metre paddle/walk from Ant steps(right). As for my hip (touch wood) I'll forgive the power that is for making the last four years of my life a physical and psychogical nightmare as I appear to be blessed in my recovery so far.

Looks like there could be a bit of swell around for next Sunday. Perhaps too much for the open beaches.
A long way out still for the wind but hopefully at this stage abating W turning NW.

Pretty stoked we have a holding period for this event

Latest BOM forecast for Sunday 13 October
Winds: West to northwesterly 15 to 20 knots turning southwesterly 20 to 30 knots during the day.
Weather: Local hail and thunderstorms with stronger squalls.

At this stage based on this and all other available forecasts, our best option is to run the surf race this Sunday 13th Oct subject to the timing of the wind change and storm activity.
Surf comp will be either Sunday 20th or 27th Oct.
Gotta love our crazy Vicco weather
Stay tuned for further info Friday arvo / evening.

Seems it was a good move having a holding period for the Spring Classic!!
Current forecast for this Sunday 13th October is for 20-25 knot WNW winds early in the morning, then swinging to the SW mid morning and building to 30-40 knots.
Our aim is to run both the surf comp and surf race in the best possible conditions and this Sunday will be far from it.
We will therefore postpone the event until the next date for which we have permits.
That is Sunday 20th October.
Hopefully this doesn’t inconvenience anyone.
Stay tuned for announcements late next week……forecasted conditions will determine whether the surf comp or surf race will be run on this date.
The event that is not run on the 20th (comp or race) will be run on the 27th October.
Fingers crossed for the 20th!!....one week closer to summer

PS. All is not lost for this Sunday 13th.
There is currently some loose plans to do a downwinder in Westernport Bay, from Flinders to Balnarring, in the arvo once the SW wind and swell kicks in.
It’s going to be wild so will only be suitable for experienced paddlers!!

Also a big thankyou to SHQ Boardsports that have come onboard as event sponsor.
The SHQ crew will have their fleet of demo boards from JP & Coreban available for demo on the day.
SHQ have offered up some prizes that will be drawn from a lucky dip.....everyone has a chance to take home a prize!!

G'day Mick - welcome to Melbourne's East Coast. It's a great place to surf (just don't tell everyone, ok! )

You will find waves tomorrow. Wind forecast is 15 - 20 knots NNW most of the day. Currently as I look at the cams there is some good swell coming into Westernport, but it is predicted to drop a bit tomorrow (and then pick up again Sunday, for the comp!). I expect there will be waves inside Westernport again tomorrow, but the issue may be size. Westernport breaks are very tide-dependant. Most are best from mid - high tide, on the incoming tide. Once the tide starts running out it tends to kill the swell.

I think you should start at Flinders (Big Left - off the golf course), which is outside the bay and picks up a similar swell to 13th Beach on the West Coast. Just look for the goatboats, other SUP's etc and you will find it . You can paddle out from the carpark down by the beach in the middle of the golf course. The issue will be wind, as the break is a long way out and very susceptible to wind. Will break at any tide, subject to swell size.

If it is too big or messy at BL, then I'd suggest you go back to Shoreham - the Pines - look for the anti-SUP stickers in the carpark and the pack of grumpy mal riders who think it is massive if it gets to 2 foot! SUP's often paddle up to the next point (towards Flinders) from here to avoid most of the crowds.

Or you could go back to Pt Leo ($4 entry charge now we are approaching summer), where there are a few breaks (Crunchies, Suicide, 2nd Reef). Picks up a lot more swell than Shoreham. High tide is at 12:30pm tomorrow, so best times should be from about 9am - 1pm.

Or you can give me a call, as I'm hoping to get down tomorrow for quickie at some stage.

And, as a final option if the forecast is off and it is howling from the North - grab hold of a 14'er and do a downwinder with the crew in the (Port Phillip) bay.

Sorry for the text book answer....I think I need a coffee after this!

Yeah mate
If ya bomb out in the first round you get a second crack in the repechage round.
Minimum two heats for everyone with only a few others in the water in what's looking like epic conditions....YEEEEEWWWWWW

Rego at 8:00 - 8:30
Likely to get first heat in the water around 9:00 but will depend on swell and tide.
If the forecast is correct you'll be able to surf the Hump right through the low tide.
Get your pre rego in before 6pm tomorrow (Sat) arvo.

Make sure you all get your entries in before 6pm tomorrow as this is the first ever Sup Surf comp on the East Coast and we have a forecast for perfect swell and offshore winds.

If the swell is right, the Point will be working from sun up, if not we may have to wait a while for the tide to fill in a bit.

See you all Sunday morning!

Hate to rain on the parade as I hope to give the comp a crack but it looks like there is a Super Grom comp on as well this Sunday at Leo. Check out:www.triggerbrothers.com.au/w/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=540&Itemid=100053

If this is the case I will certainly give the comp a miss as I don't have enough skills to dodge a busy Leo line up with kids!
