Better Boating Victoria site still has it prohibited.
Might just be me but Paddle Vic would have to be one of the better kept secrets.
With the current weather not really bothering me at the moment

Perhaps it's because you are unaware of the change of name from Canoeing Victoria.

That would make sense.
But where do they fit in with the various levels of government?
Are they as authoritative as SUP VIC, or do they come under or above Boating Victoria?
I can say we are allowed to go paddling"", but the Police may question my authority when I get busted.

Believe who you want. When given conflicting advice, I always choose the advice that suits me! I'm keeping a link to that website on my phone to show the police if they question me. Let's face it, we're all just rolling with the punches at the moment.

I took your advice.
I gave the Police your name, told them you said it was OK.
Took me from borderline depression to feeling really good.

Thank you!

SUP VIC is a club whereas Paddle Victoria is a state peak body for canoeing and kayaking. Paddle Victoria is much bigger than SUP VIC and is more comparable to Surfing Victoria in terms of status and influence. A number of canoe clubs are affiliated with Paddle Victoria as member clubs, just as many board rider clubs are affiliated with Surfing Victoria. Neither Paddle Victoria nor Surfing Victoria are actually government organisations but they are both recognised by government as peak bodies for the sports that they oversee.

Boating Victoria appears to be an advisory body that fits within Maritime Safety which is a division of the Department of Transport.

Ha ha well done mate! I did something similar. They hit me with a $1600 fine and I gave them your name.

Also mentioned in ABC news about the change of mind to allow paddleboarding in Vic.

Actually all jokes aside Nozza, I feel for the guys who can't get in the water. As you said, it can take you from borderline depression to feeling good. I've had the monkey on my back in the past and the surf has saved my sanity. Anyway, thanks for some good posts and here's one of me from yesterday. For all you guys trapped in the burbs at the moment hopefully knowing that once the travel restrictions ease up a bit you'll be able to hit the water will be some consolation.

Studies have linked good mental health with regular access to bodies of water - ocean, lake, river, whatever. Whether this is causation or correlation, I couldn't tell you.

Well there you go, according some anonymous Victorian DHHS person, us SUPers are a bunch of slow moving, unresponsive behemoths that are a danger to those poor unprotected proners and we will clog up the hospitals with all the proners we run over.
Alternatively, you could read this to say that SUPPing is ok as long as you don't go near the proners. I've asked that question and n a follow up email - keep you posted

You can have all the problems in the world .....once
you are out catching waves it all seems to disappear .....they then reappear as you walk to the car .
Nothing has been as important to my sanity as much as SUP and the ocean

It's official! Supping in Victoria is ok (as long as it is within social distancing guidelines). See advice from Better Boating Vic (Betterboating.vic.gov.au) that was posted just yesterday

While trying to figure whether sup was prohibited or not, I came across this rule from Transport Safety Victoria - you must wear a flotation safety device while operating a stand up paddleboard more than 400 metres from shore. Imagine turning up at an outer reef wearing a big orange life vest - the proners would laugh you out of the water

Not a floatation device, but I specifically bought the brightest red lycra I could find to wear on top of my wetsuit for my sessions with low visibility on outer reefs or banks, or here in Hossegor on outer banks when there is fog.

Assholes on recreational boats abounded when I was near Cannes, and here in Capbreton professional fishermen chase squid schools in the fog in the surf, so you can suddenly face a trawler coming out of the fog...

in my experience the bright / fluro orange colour works best.
No trawlers here, mainly idiot Fisho's and morons on Lebanese Motorbikes / Wog Toboggans

So do you think if I tell the cops I've come to Torquay to lay a reef on Anzac Day they'll be onto me.
