Paddle sports and wind sports have a spectrum of expertise. You get the hard core water dudes that virtually live in the ocean, and the general public that buy kayaks and SUPs and stuff from Anaconda and Costco and go out and try and drown themselves. Again, it's too hard to differentiate so just ban it all.

Please realize that what you wrote sounds exactly like "I should not have to obey speed limits, because I am a much better driver than the rest of the population"...

I am an human being, I may get over the speed limit from time to time, but I am not trying to delude myself in thinking I am a driving god and rules do not apply to me, and I certainly won't try to contest a fine on this ground :-)

Not a judgement on anyone's choices.

Just my take on Beach Closings and other difficult decisions... many of them wrong.
That is simply the nature of things in times of "crisis"
No one is "right"
So, I decide for myself.

and believe me, more than half of me says:
"Not next time. I will not do this again"
I do NOT do well with excessive government control
Especially if it hides behind the the excuse.... "it's for the good of the people"

and, for the record:
Surfing is NOT banned where I live.
Almost ALL my friends are surfing and paddling..... I am happy for them.
The waves have been spectacular (see pics)
-------------------------------------------------------------------

As fate would have it:

# 1 - TWO days ago, a SUPster was surfing at one of my local breaks
He took his board to the face
Major damage, face severely injured, teeth knocked out, jaw broken, tissue damage

#2 - Last week, at one of my go-to road trip spots, A SUPster, jumped into shallow water at the end of a wave and broke his ankle

BOTH needed:
Trip to the ER.... Nurse's, Doctors, precious Medical equipment and time was used to treat them.

I don't want to be that guy.
It is not about me right now.

Waves I passed up last week:
and I'm ok with that.

My local

one of my go-to, road trip peaks

Lots out surfing

Wow saying no to that. Your.......a....... stronger.......... man........ than............ me!
I'm probably gonna break my leg, or fall flat on my face getting out of bed tomorrow having selfish thoughts like that.

Different story here, we do not have a raving lunatic in the top seat. ICU staff are being laid off due to lack of work. Covid is relatively under control as long as they do not relax the guidelines. Surfing still ok but spread out MF's.

If you believe the US is the epicenter of the China virus, then I have a really nice beachfront property for sale in Alice Springs for a low price. Hilly, I will give it to you and GWatto for one US dollar.

China was and is the epicenter of the China virus. Japanese monitoring cell phones has shown that over 150,000 cell phones have gone silent in China. People who aren't around to charge their cell phones or make calls. Look it up, you can't do anything in China without a cell phone.

The US has a long way to go to match that number. So, go ahead and believe the media coverage that you are being provided that says DT didn't do enough. I don't trust the media or the government. I research and apply critical thinking. So, this Yank asked why your ABC doesn't have much to say about China?

Well, according to ABC, China donates a lot of cash to Australian politicians and the Chinese own a substantial amount of the Australian power grid. See how easy it was to look for some reasons why the media wouldn't want to talk bad about China in Australia?
Sure wouldn't want to tell the truth that China is engaging in info wars and not telling the truth about their real numbers. That would be bad for a politician career or worst case, random blackouts that disrupt the power to all the patients on ventilators.

Don't feel bad. The Democrats in the US have been on China's payroll for years. Which is why New York city's mayor told people not to worry about the virus and enjoy the Chinese New Year and get out and enjoy the city's parks. Sure wouldn't want to be labeled a racist or worse piss off the Chinese cash cow. Look it up, it's on record.

Yet, the media tells you it is DT fault and you fall for it. Now about that ocean front condo in Alice Springs, we got a deal?

Elwood beach paddleboarder allegedly fined for breaching stay home restrictions

Sharon McGowan, Herald Sun

ELWOOD BEACH PADDLEBOARDER ALLEGEDLY FINED FOR BREACHING STAY HOME RESTRICTIONS

April 14, 2020 12:06pm

www.heraldsun.com.au/coronavirus/elwood-beach-paddleboarder-allegedly-fined-for-breaching-stay-home-restrictions/news-story/49261627790d608db10a9d7984b34ac8

The man, who is understood to be a doctor, was hit with a $1652 penalty notice for breaching the government's stay at home directive and was escorted to the shore at about 5.30pm on Monday by police who were patrolling the water.

A witness, who wished not to be named, revealed that although there were also swimmers in the water, the man - who paddled out shortly after 5pm - was the only person to be approached by the police boat.

"He lives in the streets close to the beach so he maybe walked about 200m there and carried his paddleboard," he said. "He went straight out on his own and wasn't near anyone else - he was the only craft in the water.

"When he got to about 400m out from the Brighton side, down near the marina, a police boat with its lights flashing screamed into the water."

It is claimed that police spoke to the man for about 10 minutes before they made their way back to the shore.

The witness, who also lives locally, said that many locals have been paddleboarding in the area since the restrictions came into place.

"Everyone paddleboards - I paddleboard. This is the first time I've seen something like this happen. I was paddleboarding last week," he said.

"Restrictions that they have in place seem to be very draconian. I understand if someone is driving from another suburb but if you're a local walking 200m to the water and you're not interacting with anyone because you can't - you're out on the water on your own - I see no problem with it whatsoever."

When contacted by Herald Sun about the incident, a spokesperson for Victoria Police said they "will not be providing commentary on individual spot checks, reports of people breaching self-isolation or breaches of mass gatherings".

Last month, the City of Port Phillip Council closed their beaches off and can only be used as a thoroughfare or for exercise. The water remains open to swimmers.

The Herald Sun has contacted the council for comment.

Seriously, the numbers from the WHO? The same organization that tweeted on 13 Jan that China said the virus doesn't transmit human to human. The same organization that said closing off travel was an over reaction. All right, all of you law abiding Aussies win. It is all true. Stay in your homes and don't worry about the economy.
