Still recovering from the shock/horror of accidentally catching that "good wave" at the island & finding myself on a hawaii style sucky barrelling high velocity wave that my hero was not maybe the appropiate board to be on.....big wave/shallow impact area stuff :)

Yep, got it in April and I like it.

Goes great, especially down the line when you get a bit of speed up. Also is good in smaller stuff.

Took a little bit of getting used to, but once you find the spot to stand it is stable enough.

There's a guy in Christchurch riding one. He falls off heaps waiting for waves and blames the boards instability? who knows. He does catch waves way further out the back than my Hero can though. It seems to have really good glide.

i have been ridding the 10'3" gun pro and bloody love it!!!

i have also been ridding the 10'5" and the 9'8" and have settled on the 10'3"

to me the 10'3" has the perfect blend of balance, turn and glide. it goes well in small stuff and great when its a bit bigger and you can get some speed up it RIPs!!!!

10'3" Pro all the way!!

I could go on and on about how much i like that board

Hi Gizzie

I have just been through a bit of trail and was able to demo quite a few of the Starboards .
I was more interested in the shorter boards and tried boards from the 8'5" pocket rocket up , including the Hero .
I didn't ride the 10'3 but ended up on the 9'8" pro and I think it is very versatile . It has plenty of glide to get onto the waves early , it is easy to use and really stable ( compared to PSH 9'6" WR for eg )
It still has the ability to turn well and loosens up a lot when used with a smaller centre fin pushed all the way forward . It has great drive off the bottom and really carries speed well down the line . Even with the small fin pushed forward the board tracks very well and is easy to position and paddle onto the wave .

I ride this board in sucky beach break waves most of the time and find it the best all rounder . Comfortable to paddle out through the whitewater (very stable) and still long enough to do a bit of cross stepping and nose riding (well almost ,but that is down to lack of ability not the board).

I am 83 kg and 5'10" and have never wanted more length to be able to get into a wave earlier . The faster this board is ridden the more comfortable it feels , unfortunately I haven't had it out in any big conditions yet .

Don't mean to try and talk you into another board , just wanted to give you another opinion to back up towball as he seems to like his .

Really a 29 wide board more stable than a 30 wide board

So the trade off would be what

I would agree with Damo 10'3" Pro all the way!! if it is for bigger waves

Just called it the way it felt Hilly .

No SUP expert but I think it is due to the outline on the PSH and possibly the bottom shape .

Wrote a comparison on the PSH and the 9'8" pro in the review section .

Think Grizzle was on about big waves 'finding myself on a hawaii style sucky barrelling high velocity wave'

Think the 10 3 would be better than the 9 8 especially if not real glassy

Keep the box it comes in so when it snaps you have something to post the two halves back in....Seriously who would buy a starboard for big waves

PS Dave is on stock standard Starboard production gear here too

Hey hilly, funny things happen with board stability that you can't tell from just looking at the raw numbers. I went from a 9'6 Naish to the 8'5 Pocket Rocket, admittedly the PR is 1/4" wider but for me it feels so much more stable despite the shorter length and significantly lower volume - and it really doesn't pearl! Takes a brave man to contradict the opinion of someone who has actually ridden both boards (which I assume MikeN has done) rather than just look at the dimensions which only tell a small part of the story....

Owned the 9 6 Wr and the 9 8 x 30 sb the pro is based on but I don't know sh1t from clay.

What I should have said is get the 10 6 psh gun, for big waves at the moment it one of the best big wave boards around and AA will ship you one

Damo You obviously have'nt been around the SUP industry long... Yes of course I've heard of Dave Muir I was an inagural Dockers member. Anyway how do you know he's on the stock standard board Do you seriously think Team riders are riding the same constructed board that is retailed.

Anyway I don't really care, I just thought I'd mention it due to the fact I know of at least half a dozen snapages. There are prolific users on this forum that have snapped them, they won't comment because they have been hushed with replacements or portion of money back.

You are exactly what these brands target. Oh Dave Muir is riding star board, I'm gonna get one. Robby's on PSH I'm gonna get one. The fact is they are freaks and could ride a stock standard door better than you or I.

In your eye's I may have no cred's to comment, but I would put money on it that I've ridden far more brands of boards than you, starboards are not that great.

Hey Hilly not debating whether you know sh1t from clay or whether the pro is based on a 9'8 from 3 years ago - just sticking up for some poor guy that related his experience and got ripped into. Anyway nothing personal, still want to do a down-winder with you when I'm back in WA next January - it'll be more fun to argue face to face

What a nice guy

Not sure I ripped into him

In reviews Compare like with like, saying one board 2 inches longer and with a big fat nose is more stable than a board with a pointy nose and thin tail?? No sh1t sherlock

Mike may want to declare his association with starboard when reviewing their products I think everything he owns is Airush or starboard but I could be wrong

There ripped in is that better???

All good happy to go for a paddle Jon

O Wow....interesting opinions but basically the same old story 20 different people & 20 different opinions & that's kool
Sure the hero the element the drive just generally good all round boards.
Seems the like the SB gun designed more with bigger powerful waves in mind and seems like the people who own & surf it quite like it....thanks for the feedback folks.......happy supping or surfing or bodysurfing or whatever tickles your fancy
