HIF Be the Influence WINTER SUP CHAMPS....RESULTS.
The Tasmanian SUP Surfing Championships went down in pumping 2 to 5ft left and rights at sunny, offshore Roaring Beach today. The surf was pumping all day with occassional close outs challenging paddlers ability to stay in the take off areas. By days end the guys and girls were fairly warn out after many rounds of bashing back out through the line up to the take off points. There was a great air of enthusiasm and cooperation in the line up with free surfers and the SUP crew for helping to create a great beach set up and carry the gear in and out at the end of the comp.
Many thanks to STAS Head Judge Karl Gol and the great sponsors including the Lufra Hotel/Apartments for hosting the presentations tonight.
Everyone is invited to the Eaglehawk Solstice Nude Swim tomorrow morning prior to the SUP Racing event.

You know the rules boys ,photo's !!!!
or it didn't happen!!!
Congrat's to the NWBR sup'ers - I guess that means next years comp' heads north ??
You should have been there supnth .. what a show.
We've been looking for a regular wave spot on the
north coast for years but realistically the closest
would be Marrawah or St Helens (west coast and
east coast respectively) .. did you have any particular
place in mind ?
KYRON RATHBONE

technically speaking Marrawah comes under the umbrella on the NWBR and greens beach would be a great spot to centre a comp as eaglehawk neck was on the weekend . biggest drama would be the logistics of it . Most of those involved in running the NWBR club live around Penguin / Devonport so running a comp out of Marrawah would take some pulling together but wouldn't be impossible .I suppose the BOP comp could be run back in around Stanley somewhere .
Unfortunately the surf around the Central coast is pretty fickle and picking a date months ahead to run a surf comp would be asking for disaster .
IMO the winter classic should stay down south whether it is held at eaglehawk neck / carlton beach / roaring beach etc , and if a comp is to be held in the northwest ( and that is a big big if )make it a separate comp .eg . A north verses south comp for example
great work by the Park Beach Boardriders Club taking out the "TassieSUP Winter Classic" once again.
with members winning
1.Luke Meyers (mainlanders)
1.Matty Golding (over 40)
1.Dave Smith (over 50)
1.Tony leitch (over65)
as we well as the southerners filling all places in the technical race
and conrads to the northwest on their result in the open surf division
Maybe the surf comp' should be held down south as a winter comp' and the racing held as a separate summer comp' at Bridport or similar ?

In all fairness I think the northerners took out the winter classic!

There will be SUP racing again at the Kingston Beach Regatta 2015. Australia Day 2015.
Everyone is welcome. We have races catering for all levels of paddlers.
Next year I suggest we have the age divisions together in heats so we don't end up with the same farcical situation I found myself in where I had no opportunity to defend my over 50 title .
