Just wondering about the BOP race. Where is it being held and will there be divisions, what size boards can enter?

Thanks.

good question JulesX

Plan A.
surf comp will run on Saturday anywhere between Nubeena and Carlton River, with the BOP run on Sunday at Eaglehawk Neck (2 divisons 12'6" & under 10")and i'm sure there will be a few round on Friday looking for some warm up waves and demo boards.

Plan B.
if the waves are totally uncontestable on Saturday we will look at running the surf comp on Sunday & BOP on Saturday, but the conditions will need to be BAD and we will have some idea prior to the Saturday what we can expect.
the Lufra Hotel have offered contestants a very good deal on accommodation (details to follow) together with some sponsorship, so we will be based there.

Thanks.

Is the BOP race going to be held on the inside or outside of the Neck? I know a few flat water 12'6 paddlers who might be interested in entering but they don't have experience in surf (and 2 very keen 14' riders wanting to flat water race and do downwinders).

I should have a some 12'6 demo boards for the day.

in the surf I would think like most other BOP, why don't these paddlers run their own flatwater event if that's what they want ?

It would certainly be of great benefit for
the TASSIESUP WINTER CLASSIC to have
these other disciplines .. more bums on seats.

And the BOP competitors may choose to enter
in the flat water events as well.

The accent is not on comp but to get everyone
together .. it all just flows on from there.

BUT there will be entry fees to all events.

AND prises AND trophies to die for.

Just can't wait .. how many sleeps now !

BOOK IN EARLY AT THE LUFRA HOTEL
JUST MENTION "THE WINTER CLASSIC"
TO GET THE SPECIAL DISCOUNT RATES
THAT WE'VE BEEN OFFERED.

Had a coffee and egg and bacon brekky at the
bakery .. last Sat .. then a session at park beach
before we went to Eaglehawk Neck.

Called into the LUFRA HOTEL .. our sponsors for
this years TassieSUP Winter Classic .. met the
management .. had morning tea .. checked out
the rooms .. it's all good.

So we've started booking into the rooms and
anyone out there who's coming should do likewise.

We've got preferential rates, that you'll get advise on soon,
but in the meantime you can still book.

hi ET, our friends at Surfing Tas are bringing out a special shirt for their 50th anniversary this year so i'm not sure yet if we have to go with them or they will let us do our own

looks like the latest trophy might have been modeled on ET

does anyone know when / how often we are supposed to pay surfing tas membership .

does club membership with the boardriders clubs automatically include surfing tas membership ,

I still have received no recognition/ receipt that I have joined up over 12 ,months ago so F.. k knows when I am supposed to repay membership

I think the clubs are trying to negotiate
a deal where their members are automatically
Surf Tas joined so long as they're financial
with their respective affiliated clubs.

In the meantime if you try to enter a Surf Tas
comp you will be unable to do so unless you
are financial.

I personally wouldn't join until I really needed
to .. ie: just prior to comp entry.

The benefits that we get from
being affiliated with Surf Aus
are: Selection for Nationals and
insurance to cover our activities.

Having said that we still haven't
seen the insurance policy and
have no idea if it exists and/or
what we're covered for.

But somebody out there would know.

Looks like we have a few questions here in relation to surfing tasmania that I can answer .

1. SUP now has a voice with surf tas and they have created a position on their committee for a SUP rep who for the time being is me
2. Entrants in the TassieSUP Winter Classic will get one of the surf tas 50th a anniversary t shirts, TassieSUP will not be creating a special event t shirt
3. Shirts are about to be printed, this has taken a little while to organise as they have come up with a new design this year and will be posted out when they are available.
4. Membership with surfing to is taken over a calendar year eg January to December.
5. If you are a member of a club that is affiliated with surf tas you will need to join surf tas to compete in the Winter Classic, surf tas will be discussing this at their next meeting and things may change next year

Will the sup winter classic be like last year ? Meaning: will mainland competitors be allowed? The whole event was a complete waist of time because the winner was a mainlander therefor no tasmanian was able to be selected to represent Tas. Big slap in the face from surfing tas to all the tassie boys and girls

You make a good point Cruisen
and this year there will be a special
division for visiting States' entrants.

But the old system wasn't all bad ..
at least if a mainland visitor beat
you, what was the use of you being
selected to represent Tas .. because
he was just going to beat you again
in the Nationals anyway ..

Anyway they might be good enough
to show us a few skills .. some that
we've already forgotten .. and party
with us.

I hope Standito can make it again
this year.

Hi Guys,

If an interstate competitor wins then they win the event e.g. 1st place however they are not the State Title holder and they cannot represent the State.

I don't believe this would have effected representation at Nationals in anyway.

Everyone fully expected a Tassie State Team to represent.

Phill

I think the local guys are worried
that an interstate entrant could knock
them out in an early round and therefore
they won't get to realise their full potential relative
to other Tassies.

If you read the program of events (above) you'll
see that visitors have a separate division, they don't
have to join Surf Tas and they can enter on the
beach on the day.

Cheers

And dont forget that surfing tas will probable just choose one of their mates to represent tassie who didnt enter the comp. so one would think is it worth the entry fee or would it be better to just have a fun surf with everyone up the beach further.

Thanks for the feedback Dave .

I have no direct involvement with surfing Tas but IMO everybody has learnt from last years stuff up and things have been put in place to make sure it doesn't happen again .

Big changes for SUP in Tassie in the last year - we now have our own rep on surfing Tas in Dave , we now have 2 of the board riding clubs running SUP comps .

IMO surfing Tas is now viewing SUP surfing as a serious part of surfing Tas
