Personally, as someone who has organised comps for years and established and runs an incorporated sporting association, I fully understand the behind the scenes work that goes into organising comps. People do it because they love the sport.

All I can say is good on the fellas who organise it and also to those who have run surfing tas for decades.

As the Tassie Champ from last year I'm not at all put out for not being invited to the nationals and nor do I feel entitled to being there. I had nooo chance of beating a duck up there and I wasn't going to spend thousands on travel to find out! If someone else went on a mission to discover what Sup is so they can add that to their quiver of jobs they do for nothing, then I'm all for it. If they got a free trip, they earnt it IMHO. I could not even imagine giving up a day to judge people on waves like we had at four mile. I'd be out there!

Whinging is the number one destructive force when it comes to volunteer operated gigs, so lighten up! We're lucky to have crew organising and judging us at all!

Im just gunna share the stoke.... And here's a little bit right here...see u in Ho ho

Good stuff Kite Devil
and thanks for letting us all
know your feelings on the matter.

Nice vid .. obviously in training for
the up and coming TassieSUP 2014
Winter Classic.

Meanwhile we have Cheryl (SisterSUP)
in training at Park Beach .. this manoeuvre,
in the early stages of development, is known
locally as the Late Layback.

From outback Qld (no water) .. SUPing for 6 months.

Already entered and keen to entertain.

Meet SisterSUP at the Lufra Hotel on the
Friday nights " Meet and Greet".

Skeghead and 2MT have retained and extended
the contracts of their Fijian coaching entourage above.
Pictured at Mango Bay Resort .. from left:
Wes (coach), Elizabeth (hair stylist) and Bill (security).

They all send their kind regards and good luck for the
big up and coming event .. they may not make it for the

Winter in Tas is the favoured season for surfers
and SUPers especially .. good waves .. no crowds and
a good portion of the days are sunny mit glass.

This is why TassieSUP started up the WINTER CLASSIC,
and of course it's off-season for tourism so no queues and
so therefore low cost accommodation and travel.

Interstate competitors are most welcome.

And so to celebrate the changing of the seasons I have
designed a new paddle with a colour job best described
as "flannelette" .. and this flannelette pattern is inspired
by the pyjamas which the ladies in our area wear when
they see their kids off at the bus stop .. and then go to the
IGA to get their smokes, chips, chockies and TV Weeks.

Hi Everyone.

I thought I'd share this with you because it's an opportunity to get some new gear for the Winter Classic or a leg up for new and upcoming talent. I see there's a large group of grommets surfing for PBBR. Can they be encouraged to cross over?

Is there a junior division at the Winter Classic?

Coreban are looking for team riders. They have released a couple of new surf SUP's and are including carbon construction boards too. Give Pete a call if you are interested. His number is on the flyer.

I think Skeghead (over 50 state champ) isn't under contract to anyone at the moment, he could be your man

Yes please TS I was the toast of Noosa in my 2013 T-shirt.

I was hoping to have a long line of Winter Classic T-shirts. Looks like I might be able to do that.

Name the price and I will send the money.

Happy ET.

Julesx, the winter Classic caters for all ages and genders, there is even talk of a division for sponsors/dealers

Great thread,
It's fantastic to see the excitement building for the winter Classic.
The newly created position of SUP rep on the Surfing Tasmania committee will be a huge benefit in the lead up to the nationals. Prior to this there was no clear connection between the SUP community and the structure around Surfing Australia.
Surfing Tasmania is slowly refining and redefining it's purpose to make it relevant and of benefit to those who wish to compete for state titles and follow a pathway to national and international events. It is also working with clubs to support those who don't wish to follow those pathways but be part of a structure nonetheless.
Never an easy task to organise surfers, but progress is slow and steady .
It would be great to see as many people at the nationals this year as possible as it is a great event with a fantastic vibe. There are a select few who are in the running for titles, the rest are there to catch up, meet new people and progress SUP.
This year Tassie still has a full allocation of places, but we expect this to be cut down in coming years if we can't fill the places given to us.
Full details of these will be shared at the Winter SUP event.

Thanks Clifton Ben for the above contribution.

And thanks for all the hard work that you
guys do to keep the various organisations
functioning and in harmony.

BUT MEANWHILE WE ARE ABLE
TO CONFIRM THAT DoctorSUP
HAS AGAIN BEEN RETAINED.

DoctorSUP will tend to the physical and
mental health issues which arise as a
result of the tensions that surface in the
build up to megga events .. stamina,
skills and gamesmanship will be addressed.

Can we see the return of the "KFC encouragement award" this year, there was a lot of disappointment when it was dropped last year, it would have to be the most sort after award in SUPing on the planet ?

Good thought RR

Probably a useful motivational tool to
lure the likes of Spencer back down
from the Sunshine Coast to enter the
event .. and even Big Man .. but the
question on everybody's lips is: is KFC
the food of champions ??

This question should be put to none other
than DoctorSUP ...

where is he anyway ??

Very good gamesmanship Kyron.
Go to the top of the class.

You will need to be aware patients ..err
fellow SUPers that Kyron is a seasoned
campaigner and here he is putting the
fear of God into his competitors .. this
action is called PRE-COMP INTIMIDATION.

This can be combatted but more of that
advanced comp conditioning as the comp
draws nearer.

In the meantime SUPers just work on the
basics .. health .. fitness .. skills.

Start the program with an apple a day.

Sincerely

DoctorSUP

Thanks for raising that issue TassieSUP.

A good night's sleep close to the break can
be a big advantage to competitors .. this
is offered at the Lufra Hotel along with
excellent meals .. nutrition = energy = VICTORY.

And getting started first thing, early on a brisk
winter morning in TAS calls for these extra strategies:

1 .. Sleep over-night in your wetsuit.

2 .. Have your breakfast before you go to bed.

Sincerely

DoctorSUP

Northwest board riders are running a comp this Sunday , meet up at 9 at sulphur creek beach .. Comp will be held there or at presso bay / penguin reef depending on conditions The northwest crew will be using this as a warm up to make sure everyone is in top form come June 21 St .

Quite a few new boards out there since the last comp , forecast sounding good waist- chest high NNW swell . It's going to be on like donkey kong
