hi, look i apologised to doggie. if you look at his posts you would have to imagine he's not really 'for' sups, but he never gets out of line imo.
i posted my opinion, but i probaby crossed the line a bit, but it was my opinion on his opinion so to speak.
anyway, most of us ex shortboarders still have a little bit of 'doggie' still in us- thats way its good to have him aboard.

Summary of ideas so far:
- Make them 'unanonymous'
- No thumbs at all
- Don't care
- Leave as is
- Add a 'karma' bar
- Use real names
- Shoot / ban anyone with over 595 posts
- 1 week ban for spelelling errors.
Judging by the 4-1 voting in favour of the reds return (on the topic on page one), it looks like people are voting for them back so far .. and if they do return, there will be some technological tweaks to refine them... they will be a different beastie than before.
Have your say .. vote on the first post (page one topic) .. or type away... it's all good fun! Wedneday is end of vote.

am I not kidding like you think you are? and I didn't say anything about you hating I was suggesting you dont like SUPers. why else would you incite and encourage others to dislike sup. but then I'm only having a joke.
I want to change my vote. Just make us the same as all the other forums. I don't like the idea of SUP being in a special needs group because some kids can't play nicely with the other kids.
Conversely, if you want a techno fix:
- Everybody gets a quota of posts/thumbs.
- Posting or giving/receiving red thumbing decreases your quota.
- Time and/or a portion of green thumbs increases your quota.
- Too many red thumbs or posts and you can't post/thumb any more until old posts/red thumbs have expired.
- Maybe have a multiplier so if you thumb one person's posts repeatedly in a short time frame then you lose more of your quota.
- Pick a few "forum reporters". like DJ, who provide content, and make them exempt from the post/thumb quotas.
- Thumbs need to be anonymous because voting is always private to protect the voters from intimidation (see above posts for examples).
Nobody can mount thumb vendettas on anybody because thumbing stops you being able to thumb or post more.
People who get thumbed by a lot of people are by definition extremely annoying and are auto sin-binned by popular consensus.
Here's a scenario:
Mr Big has a surf with his son, he posts some pics and a story.
Jack Flynn red thumbs his post for no reason, his name shows up as red thumbing.
Everyone thinks Jack is knob....... If you can see Jack is being a knob my guess is Jack wouldn't do it in the first place.
The argument is that pressing the thumb isnt saying anything, if your name is beside it you are saying something. It could even generate discussion.
