Wow !! Looks like it has plenty of speed. Great option for flat water and downwind.
A bigger deck, and you could pile on the kids & dogs..... Plus a mast hole.... it would probably be quite a good windsurfer in a straight line, and you could probably force it to tack !!
(I didn't watch all of the first video, not sure if they talked about this)

Great vid. How good does the S-16 Standamaran go looks bulk fast. I'm good mates with Mark Raaphorst when I'm in Maui I always hang with him & the Maui boys its great doing downwinders with them + Mark is a encyclopaedia of knowledge I've learnt a lot when it comes to downwind paddling. looks like I'll be doing a quick trip to Maui before Fiji so I'll be hassleing Mark for a go. I know my F-16 & F-18 go BULK FAST F##K I'm going to have to build a bigger garage if I buy a S-16
Nice.. It's not my cup-a-tea because it's more like a boat than a board.. No doubt it fast and stable but it reminds me of quad bikes.. yuk!
Mark is like the nutty professor.. .. I mean that in a nice way..

Re watching that vid of Mark riding it.. He needs a kicker pad or something on that standing platform because another inch back with his rear foot and it would have made a great Funniest Home Video clip..
As much as I'm not a fan of it if I was a millionaire or Phono Bill (same thing) I'd have one for sure.. even if it is a Stand Up Boat..

Could this be the first step in making SUP just like this years America's Cup. It was the first time it had been contested by multi hull boats which have been reported of reaching 25 knots in only 10 knot winds. Needless to say there were numerous court cases which ended in a new set of rules being drawn up for these two boats.
In our world where there aren't set classes yet for races, this throws another variable into the equation. By no means can you put a limit on progression and without inovators like these guys who knows what we will be riding in 5 or 10 years time.
Nothing wrong with a multi-hull category for those serious racers. After all who says we need to be restricted to having 12'6", 14' and unlimited clases.
For me I am more interested on how much fun you can get out of them out in the deep blue and how far you can push them. In 1 year we have dramatically changed some of our ideas on ultra long distance boards. These multi hull designs will open up so many new doors to what is possible out there. Bring it on.
Completely agree with you mike we shouldn't be putting restrictions on boards and I would love to get on one of these and give it a run and I am sure it would blow my mind.
Is the next step multi person boards like an OC....
Big Ocean Swell & Oily Smooth Conditions !!! Unfortunately the two don't align very well.... big storms, and big seas, and chop, and alot of water movement.....
If the swell is up, throw me my big wave guns please, I'm going (lay down paddle) surfing...
I'm with DJ. Maybe have one if I was Phono Bill, but even then it would be too much risk of falling and damaging my Maserati & Ferrari.
I'm still thinking along the lines of "boards" for downwinders, so you can get on the tail and change direction a little easier, to stay with swell chop you are riding....
A "Cat Board" would never really be surfed... you would be pointing in a direction, and then you try and change the way you are pointing.... you wouldn't really be surfing.... up and plaining....

I'm just simly refering to having bases covers nothing beats surfing. SUP downwind is the next best thing when you can not ride your short board my F-16 & F-18 are bulk fun when the surf is blown out. But 90% of the time when there is a SUP race organizers want you to paddle in a canal or into a head wind because they have no idea in Australia so I think the S-16 would be a good weapon of choice under those circumstances. (just like surfing the SUP sport can be quite expensive)
If I get one ,will I be able to race it?
If I get one and race it will the classes be change in 6 months to exclude standamarans?
Its no different to my DC 12'6' being in the same class as the Mana,12' Uberfish and the big old South points. Now technology and design goes further with the 12'6' Surf Tech 'Mitcho'.
16' Standamaran?? I'm ringing Mac Tavish in the morning.Doesn't look lie the concept would work as a rudderless 12'6'.
What will we do with all these out of date boards?
This reminds me of the of the catamaran monohull debates many years ago in the sailing world.
I love the idea of these in the open class, I think it will encourage and fast track more innovation and push more boundaries for the benefit of the sport.
If some guys call a standamaran a boat then what's this?
My way of thinking is....if your paddling standing.......then your on a standup board....who gives a rats what it looks like so long as it does the job intended.
I am no racer but it is really interesting to see this development.
For me, paddle 'surfing' and distance paddling are two very different sports that started out on the same equipment and then went their own ways.
Is there anything more painful than pounding into the wind standing on board?
Somehow you have to counter the disadvantage of being prone to the wind but there are limitations with going longer. If two hulls makes it easier it is here to stay!
Reminds me of the whole Mountain bike development. It all started on a slightly modifed 'bike' and as people got hooked they developed more efficient bikes for off-road use. They are now two different sports (with some cross over, ie Cyclecross bikes) but I reckon this is the future and maybe we wont be paddling 'boards' as such over long distances. Either that or we have another 'class' to deal with!
Here's some pics on another one. This one is a Ron House. I took these at Dana Point at the Battle of the Paddle last October.
(Sue to pipped me to the post) This is nothing new Ron House made one a couple of years ago , with enormous success , thats why they got band.I personally think it's too far away from the mono hull design to compete on an even playing feild BUT on the other hand give the design guys free reign on the R&D the sport will only benifit as a whole.
