Looking forward to the new pics from your camera Mick. Have a great holiday and hope you enjoy those European beers

Cheers bro, have discovered some beautiful beers & the funny thing was even the restaurant prices in Switzerland were 1/2 the price of West Oz. In Germany (Baden Baden) now but only had 1 beer so far last night. I ordered roast duck with rice from a chinese place & it was massive like 1/2 a duck. Ate 1/2 & had way too much of a food coma to fit in anymore beer...will add a few pics to great pics the boys have been uploading on this thread soon

Sounds epic! Enjoy the trip
looking forward to some snaps! I'll upload some from mine in about 2 weeks

Cheers mate, loving the beer here haha...& looking forward to seeing yours. If you get good swell there are some great waves around Caloundra, Kings on the SB or Moffats on the LB. Nice gokart track down near Steve Irwins Croc place & the Etamogue (SP wrong) pub is worth a look. Also nice country up in the hills behind near the tree top walk, huge waterfall. Sunny coast is a beautiful place

lol...understandable. Last time I was down there (too long ago) Jack was out at Pea Break making the overhead head (for him) waves look epic. There's a lot more awesome days when your 40-50kg & a notch under 5 foot

A pretty cool door in Cesky Karlov

One of the lesser decorated church ceilings, but still architectually awesome. I liked it coz there was no arty distraction to the curves & angles of the construction

Any of you gurus care to point me in the direction of a lens... if it exists

I have nikon D3100, have the kit 18-55 and a 35mm F1.4 prime.

Very little money to spend (or a lot of competing demands on the dollar) but I'd like to take some star pics / desert landscapes. Heading into the outback before too long.

I'm considering one of those time lapse controllers too, so I can sit up and tripod shoot through the night for star trails etc. They seem pretty cheap
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Time-Lapse-Intervalometer-Remote-Timer-Shutter-for-Nikon-D3100-D3200-D90-D600-AU-/262493688957?hash=item3d1dd7d47d:g:MMAAAOSwNuxXalhR

This inspired me, a place I've been
v

So I'm thinking of a cheap very wide angle I guess, sigma or tamron maybe? Anyone had any good results with one?

Those remotes are great. They seem cheap - they are - mine has lasted about 5 years and still going. You need a really good tripod for star shots from experience. The cheap and nasty ones can work - but whack some rocks down around the legs. Google techniques on line but you need to be using manual focus, used highest aperture you can get out of your lens and then play with the ISO to let more light in. If you are in the complete darkness a small lens like your 1.4 will be fine. You need to play around with it a lot until you get what you think is a good shot - 15-25 second exposure generally. Then once you are happy with this launch the time lapse. The. Whatever you do make sure that tripod never moves. If you are using a tele type lens that is heavy then you need a really good tripod due to the weight.

It's a good idea to try and set your shot up during the day with something of interest in the foreground. Have a look on line at what other people have done to get some ideas.

Make sure you turn all light related settings off your camera. Have fun - be prepared for disappointment though - it's bloody frustrating but when you finally get it right it's epic ! There are some great software solutions out now to run all your shots through for the time lapse.

Nice pics Mick - so what is your opinion on the camera now after your trip? Any chance of a review? I have been thinking of trying to find a one stop solution for when I can not take the DSLR bag. Need a one stop solution for when it's required.
