Thought I'd start a new topic to discuss all things 4 wheeled.
So yesterday I thought I'd head back into Boardshop Australia to pick up a new helmet & while in there got talking to Tony about the issues I'd been having with wheel bite on the new LBL Da Glide, we tried more risers, stiffer bushings & after a test run in the carpark I established we hadn't solved the problem after a forced tuck & two rolls after yet another wheel bite.
Rule #1 - Don't skate in bare feet.
Then he suggested we try some Randal RII 180's, this gave better efficiency in bushing performance, we also added another 1/2" riser making 1" in total, on testing this setup which also allowed for tighter turns the wheels were still pretty close to the deck so the decision was made to drop in wheel size, we decided on Tunnel Krakatoa's in 70mm. This setup now works well with no chance of biting but I'm thinking of dropping one of the risers & grinding some wheel cut-outs into the deck to compensate. It just feels a little high off the tar now, maybe I'll get used to it.
I will say the guys at Boardshop Australia were fantastic to deal with, they swapped trucks over at no cost & really went out of their way to help solve the issue, we spent nearly 2 hours going through stuff. A big thanks to Chrispy too for his advice & guidance through the whole process.
Man that toe looks sore
I played with mine also today, first I garbed another set of risers, the shop had no two inch bolts so off to the hardware,at first I doubled the risers, lookedthen changed the rubbers back to the orange took it for spin and wheel bit,so I tightened and kept adjusting until I figured they will not work so back to the harder blacks,no wheel bit.
Then I took one set of risers off and added the wedged risers with a standard set, seems to work ok at this stage.
I Went for a roll before and found 3ks of cycle track that is a down hill concrete path, pushed twice at the top and that was it....
What I find amazing is that they sold you a board with wheel bite?
The other option is to take a little of the timber out from under the board, just where the wheel is scrubbing. Easy, and then you don't have to change trucks or wheels.
For mine, I make sure the wheel bite is solved at the truck drilling stage.
Hope your toe heals quick! Not much you can do with that one.....
SP with all the controversy about the Fernleigh track and the conflict between walkers and cyclists, you might become the next front page news sensation.
I can see it now "Longboarder slaloms pensioners".
why is their an issue with bite, are you boys riding them like short boards or are they that low or wide deck the prob.
There's no cut-away to help prevent the bite.
My little 32 inch Ala Moana has 30 inch axel to axel spacing. So technically it is a midlength I guess!
But I am shopping around for a cheap Longboard... 40 inch plus. But many circa 42 inch decks have roughly 34 inch axel spacing...
I was hoping a car would run over your camera
The boards are wide, the wheels are wide and the boy's are wide
Funny Mac! It was actually on the iPhone4. So you could also say, "I was hoping a car would run over the phone!
Vanders, how is the toe? I sprained the one next to my big toe, back in 2011... Like New Years Day... roughly 2+ years ago. Only just getting back to 100% now!
Seem to be bang on 1/2 inch risers, but the due to the double kingpin configuration (rare configuration).
Centerline Axel is about 3 inches from the underside of the deck. Bottom of the wheel is about 4"3/8 from underside of deck.
Top of Deck is 5" off the ground, and up to 5"1/4 at edges, with subtle concaves in deck.
If I was shaping a deck, these flyers should be 2 inches further back, to give your heel & toes more support, but still follow the same final pin design, to avoid wheel bite.
thats all fine simondo if you want to ride like you were, for cruising and board walking that board is to short and thin.
Mac its the same reason you have a quiver different boards for differend styles and conditions.
to me the very long skateboards are like 12footers. i wouldn't ride a 12 footer like simondo was riding that skateboard.
Just saying
Grom burn that piece off ****mac you summed it up. You and vanders are big muscley pie eaters. I have solved the problem and will fix it fpr you tues
Weiry they are just getting their balance atm. But the next stage will be a breeze for them. And what you said was on the money abot quiver
