Hi guys,
I am new to Sydney having lived in Victoria for 14 years and NZ before that.
I am looking for some recommendations on where to either buy a good 2nd hand board or get a custom board made.
Problem is i am a big guy (125kg) so looking for a tank.
Ideally around 10' or longer? And at least 3.5" thick.
Can anyone recommend anywhere that may be able to help.
Located in north ryde
Cheers

Hi and welcome, you could go 9.10 x 23 1/2 x 3 1/4 sorry I cant help with where but maybe one of the Sydney siders can help.
This board is 9'4" x 22 3/4" x 3 3/8"
At $750 a great buy..Owned by renowned surf photographer Jack Eden and being sold by Jim Parkinson
It's still for sale (as of 8.55 05/12/16) and size right for you..a win/win ..If interested contact Christina on 0407909137
I'm sure it's in the Caringbah area.
You're biggest problem is the blank, once the shaper takes the scab off it, there's often not enough meat left to get 3.5 inches, but there are some exceptions.
A Core industries blank can get you 4 inches, but it maxs out at 9.8 so the best you'll get is a 9.6 board. Plus they come from Tweed heads and it's not always easy to get them to a shaper in Sydney.
The surfblanks 10.4 may be your best bet.http://www.surfblanksaustralia.com/blanks/longboards/10-4-lb#.WESQA3lf3-c
They have a max thickness of 3 7/8 so if your shaper is carful, he can get you 3 5/8, he will probably need to do it all by hand because it's possible a machined blank will be cut too deep on the first pass.
As far as a shaper goes, there's lots of people that could do it, but not a lot that will, mostly because many of them don't like seeing their name on anything other than a sexy HP board. You may need to shop around for the right shaper, mona vale and Brookvale are good places to start looking.
Get friendly with some local old farts down at the beach, we've all got boards like these.

He's 125 kg, that's not going to get him many waves unless he's got a super quick pop up and an explosive paddle. I'm 110 and I need 10 x 3.5/8 x 24 just to catch waves.
Go a Pig shape - there's less lift in the snout by design so you'll probably get more fat left in the shape itself after the first cut if thickness is priority
thanks a lot for the reply. Will see how I go looking around.
I did look at the the Southcoast stylemaster longboards when I was in Victoria. I will have a look at a couple of the sites that have been mentioned and see what they have at the top end of their size limits.
- Sheely Surboards
- Pieter
If anyone has a 10' plus board for sale I would be interested in having a chat.
cheers

Hi mate, I just got Peter Sheely to make my latest board up here in Newcastle. Mine is 9'6" x 23" x 3" and I weigh 95kgs. He has finished for the year now, mine was #28 for the year and the last one. Give him a call he is very easy to talk to and will do whatever you like. Very reasonable price too!
This is my board.

That is a beautiful looking board mate.
I will likely buy a secondhand board to get me over the xmas period and make a trip up to Newcastle in the new year.
It has been a long time since I last surfed so just looking for something I can use in 2-4' surf on the Central Coast and catch a few waves.
Have come across a board with the following dimensions 10'0" x 25" x 3 7/8" so hopefully will get over to have a look at it tomorrow.

I'm not giving any advice, i'd weigh as much as your leg ... But Pieter does great boards for big fellas. He has a few clips on his website.
Also if your on the central coast try Ocean Blu LB, they are good value for money..

Yeah. Nice fin. Nice board.
Herb, A courier would probably set you back $70-100
Just had a board picked up today,it cost the buyer 60 from Gold C to Sydney, the guy had a great set up,from Noosa and dose a run to Sydney every second week.
Must be SP his name is John nice guy.
That evo has been for sale before he must have taken it off the market, its a great board and would work a treat.
Thanks boys. Will give them a closer look. If i can get him to hold it i could even drive up over xmas as i have never driven past crescent head and surf on way back down ??
Or if you can get the McT for 850 - 900 that looks good as well.
Theres a few nice boards on Gumtree atm.
Give Karl on the Central Coast a call at Artefact 0409 008 650 he can make you anything. Does all his own stuff. Has some super nice EPS blanks that he can put multiple stringers in - they give you a whole lot more floatation - 15-20%. Might be the answer. He makes some amazing paddle boards using that stuff - thickness / width not an issue. He can then glass it as heavy or light as you like. Very reasonable prices. Great bloke. Just made me another lovely board
