fixing the neighbours board for him. Purchased this Don Burford stringerless off ebay for 99$ !
amazing board at 8'10 is quite rare for a V bottom stringerless, super pinched rails and quite wide, i think 23 1/2 if i remember correctly. The board sat in the roof of a surf club for years and has some nasty delam on the bottom, the fin was smashed in half also so i have to knock that out. Upon getting the fin out i discovered what i thought was delam around the fin was actually a nasty split in the foam from years of the fin flexing in turns etc it seems it has split the foam about 6 inches either side of the fin.
i managed to wedge open the split and get a fair amount of resin into the area and it has set perfect and am super happy with it. I then filled in the groove from the original fin with chopped up fiberglass and resin making it super strong. I had a plastic machine fin made up to glass in.
will be fixing the delam thats further up from the fin box this weekend then hopefully glassing in the fin. Will keep updates posted in here
the nose had some fiberglass thrown over it that was overkill, the person who did it didnt sand the board so it basically fell of once the sander hit it, i was expecting a massive nose smash but was 5c peice size ding.
Did you make that fin or fix the old one up?
wiz made the new fin for me, the old one was snapped in half. It looks like a fin similar to the plastic machine fin from the period so thats what we got made up
Fins I currently have two custom fins on order,6 weeks lead time I was quoted
yer i ordered another D fin and one of these, wiz was pissed, i reckon chirstmas time for me. 6 weeks is super fast for wiz
haha Wizz the classic
yer im on his sh!t list this yr haha
at least your on a list

what colour fins are you getting? that can dramatically affect the time
Wizz's most loaded colour, solid black,he has a panel in stock so materials are not the issue
7 inch loose but lost drive,8 inch more drive but down on performance so 7 1/2 will be perfect.
same reason I've ordered a 9 1/2.

yer awesome, i didnt think he did black? or does he but he calls it smokey or something?
u should try a plastic machine fin! get him to foil the crap out of it so its super whippy
Yeah..I like flex
Of all the boards I've had..never had a Vee Bottom, always thought the fins were too far forward to make them turn easy.

totally agree, some of them are almost halfway. This boards fin originally was in a good position, 6-7 inches up from the tail, i will prob move it back half an inch.
She sure looks pretty rough...it'll be interesting to see how it turns out
nothing that abit of resin and sand bags cant handle
whats the repair pour glass down and put some weight on it,dry then sand?
Yup fill it full put sandbag weights all over it. Pull the bags off and sand it back smooth generally down to the originally layer of glass, then i will put a tail patch of volan for strength and for the new glass on fin.

haha i checked on mine last night, they have been draw up onto the sheet but not cut out yet
You have some sanding to do I think Wiz cut me a 7 instead of the 7.5,the 9 worked a treat in the Pin' today.
Nice work BS you are doing a great job.
thanks man, super happy with it so far, espeically the delam how bad it was.
i ended up cutting a bridge out of the old fin also and put that on the deck, will post up more photos tonight, just a whole lotta polishing and sanding to go now :)
I've never had much joy using the tape method of holding a glass on fin in place while it set so I changed to a clamping method, but I'm buggered if I can find a picture on the net of how it's done.
I may try to set up a mockup of it tonight to show you what I mean.

i think i know what u mean, Billy from Mctavish does the same. I am not a fan of the tape either, what i did was made a super hot brew and put some on the board and placed the fin where i think i want it to go, put some tape on for the adjusting part and in 10 mins the resin had set and it was held in place allowing me to easily do the rovings etc without moving the fin
All sanded. Ended up making a bridge for the legrope out of the fin i pulled out. Final coat, wet and dry, in the water tomz

Got one of these myself and it took a bit of getting used too. Takes a bit to roll the board onto the rail just before you have the board feels as if it is heading in the wrong direction. Then when you get it on the rail she whips aroundtrying to throw you off.
Will have to post a photo of mine looks like made on the same day, slightly better nick.
