Should every longboarder have a log?

Just been thinking, with the new board being an all rounder is there a need/want to have a log style board?

I've got the 10' redline but can't help thinking I'd like a more traditional style log for those smaller glassy days.

So who's got one & what do you think of them?

I think it's possible to get a good allrounder that will cover all your needs - depending on what type of surfer you are of course. I personally dont really surf hard enough or traditionally enough to need an h/p and a log/cruiser and as such I find that my 9.3 Donald Takayama Tuflite In The Pink Longboard is more than suitable for my needs to cover every condition I encounter from 1ft to overhead surf. (suits my needs - and not suggesting it would suit anybody else)
I would suggest that for a better and more versatile surfer though that they get themselves a high performance board like a Mctavish ufo of similar and perhaps a 9.6 to 10.0 Mctavish Noosa 66 or other similar outstanding classic Mctavish longboard.

Hi Vanders, funny you bring this up. I have been thinking the same thing and only this morning was talking to Mr Munro about a 9'4 X 23 X 3 log with a big hatchet fin. I have put the 9'3 SUP up for sale and can't decide between a log and a longboard style SUP.

Do you think we can line some shaper up on a discount for a bulk order?

Shane if you are gunna get a log then I would seriously try a 9.6 of Mr Bretts before you commit to a 9.4. Personally I reckon you have an amazing longboard already and you should get yourself a nice longboardy sup to complement the quiver and give you that flat day option that you will miss if you sell your sups.

BB, I was originally thinking that as my neck has been giving me curry when I longboard. The problem is crowds on the points! I don't like SUPing when there is a crowd and lately there has always been a crowd, even on crap days. A Log would still give me a fun goto board for these days. I'm still intend to hang on to the Mana.

Good post billboard but I think we need to understand one thing here.

Your a lightweight compared to us buffed guys like vanders and I
You can ride anything that will float you from 60 to 12 foot.
I believe for the bigger guy,you need two or three boards in your quiver.
Depending on how you want to approach your surfing.I want to smack the lip when on offer,so HP for the right conditions.I want an allrouder for fuller days.I want a log for the small fat arse days. That should have all the bases covered, unless you want to whack a paddle in arm

Vanders you have just picked up a VERY nice all rounder,go a log mate but keep it 9.6 in length, sure you have a 10 foot redline BUT hell its a beast at that length and very hard to fit into a wave imho, very hard work.

No, but logs are cool! But having said that, somehow I have never ridden a true old school softer railed traditional Malibu!

But of I slotted an extra longboard into the big quiver, it would be a Redline. Versatile log...

Yeah that was my thinking, but 9'6?? The Astro is 9'8 & I'm really happy with it's boyancy & how it paddles, although I guess a 9'6 with flatter rocker but similar dims (9'6 x 23-1/2 x 3-3/8) should go pretty good.

Anyone wanna buy a 10' redline?

Doggie & Mac,
What were your thoughts on the 8'6 Burnt Orange Involvement??
Also, was it "orangey red", "burnt orange", or "orange"?

I posted in the other topic, its burnt orange.

I sold my orange tint redline in orange because it was more bright orange and a little
loud like a rescue board colour but the 8.6 is a amazing colour with the rails highlighted.

I hear you vanders,go for the 9.8 log with more meat/volume.

How much do you want for the redline,I have a mate who could be keen

I rcon everyone should have an old school log.

I'm thinking 9'8" full hulled bottom, soft rails, single fin.

It's on the list with a new performance Mal, and a hull/bonzer/single fin thing.

What's the different between an Noosa 66 and a Redline? I know the N66 has a roundish bottom and Rline has a harder rail. Is the Redline more just suited for bigger waves, can it still trim around fat sections? hao do the 2 compare for noseriding?

Thanks

Yes my taky is a tuflite. And the noosa 66 is a far superior nose-rider to the redline. The redline is a lovely board that is blindingly fast down the line and is the best trimming board I have ridden (even the big M himself agrees with me on that one).

Yesterday suited my redline, today suited the fireball and tomorrow may suit the ufo.

Is it possible to have the one board for all,yes and I think vanders has that special board.
