Hi all. I'm a 90kg longtime surfer moving to longboards full time after knee replacement. I'm pretty keen on either of hese two boards from the surfboard warehouse. Apparently there's not a great deal of difference between the two. I just want to get as many waves as possible and everything else is a bonus. Any advice out there?
Cheers

Welcome along Mz61.
Heads up, your gonna get flammed, just don't take it to heart.
Personnaly I have owned a SBWH Carbon Jet mid length, and loved it.
Quality was great, rode very nice, price was awesome etc.
But there are those in this place that detest any China import over an Aussie made board.
Their arguments to me are mute from a value for money perspective, and from a performance standing the boards go very well.
However from a loyalty to buy Aussie perspective, I get their position, buy local and support locals.
Depending on where you are it might be just as economical or close to it to look at a Clear Water as an entry level (not that their boards are only entry level, just a hell of a lot cheaper than a Mctavish).
CW have a good range and are Aussie built, they are also a little more refined in the shapes, rails, rocker, concaves etc. All important things in a mid length or long board.
Price point the are around 1/3 again on SBWH prices (barring SBWH fire sales at below landed cost just to shift product).
And then there are your local shapers, have a look on Gumtree for shapers who will talk to you about what you want etc. and shape a board to suit. They are really well priced even against SBWH, but none of the fancy gimmick stuff like carbon patches etc. Just good old fashioned well made product.
Good luck with it and let us know what you end up with.
Thanks Hydroman. I definitely understand, but at my age and limited ability, especially with two new knees, I just cant justify the $. Will def take a look at the CW
I'm waiting on the new model to arrive in store at SBW its called THE VIRUS, its a killer.
will def check out the virus! lol

Well its a conspiracy model just ask Mick PC
I've got a 10' Sea Plane from SBWH. Looks quite similar to the Bronze Whaler. Great board to ride, once I got it finned right thanks to this forum, but build quality is so-so.
The general consensus on the Sea Plane (yep - I get that we're not talking about the Sea Plane, but its a reasonable point of reference) seemed to be that it was not a beginner board, despite being 10ft. But you're a long time surfer, so wouldn't be an issue.
No question that it's hard to beat on price, upfront. And you're not going to find many/any 10 footers near that price. I think even CW you'd be looking at $1200+?
Would I buy the Sea Plane again?
Used, yes (and I bought it second hand in the first place).
And at $750 new? If that was my budget, and I couldn't find something better used, then hell yeah.
thanks damned67 and gpa. price is a big factor for me. can basically buy two sw boards for the price of one

That will really help Australia

Another model worth checking out is The Glen ,Glen20 kills the Virus model I believe.
Yeah the delete model is the go
Mz welcome to the forum, ignore Macha, he has his issues....
Alternately keep an eye out on Gumtree there is often red, black & white Tavish's appearing.
I think the model, rocker etc is fairly constant...
No pressure dings on them bad boys!
Morning Macha
P.S. Your on fire this morning
thanks damned67 and gpa. price is a big factor for me. can basically buy two sw boards for the price of one
No question that you can buy two SW boards for the price of one. Hell, even a 10' NSP will cost you a cool grand (Note: I also have an old 10'2" NSP that I bought used - pretty much the board I learnt to surf on. It's actually a great, bullet-proof board).
With SW boards, fair chance you'll end up buying two. Mine is one of the softest boards I've owned (although others may have had different experiences).
Now, if this is your first foray into longboarding, that might not be a bad thing. You might grab a 10er and decide you want 11' or 9', nose-rider vs log vs HP etc. However, you do say 'moving to longboards full time', which might imply you already have, or have had, a longboard or two in the past - so you might really know what you want.
While I don't think you can go too far wrong with dropping $750 on the Bronze (in the context of a new board), take a serious look at what is out there used. Firstly, if you can find a used 10' bronze whaler at a better price, win! And if you can find a decent, used 'quality' 10 footer for around the same price, also a win.
Further, if you don't have a whole lot of experience with longboards, I wouldn't recommend dropping $2k+ on a 'quality' board that you might not actually like.
Best of luck with your search!
Prue longboarding deserves a fibreglass surfboard non of that Asia plastic ****. Time to support your local shaper.
thanks all for your input.
Stuk - the ecs boards look nice.
Chrispy - before having a go about buying boards made OS, check where your shirts, shorts, undies, car, TV set, furniture, board straps and cover, the phone you use to check the wind direction and the resin your board is made from were manufactured...

Yawn
I know where **** comes from and your argument is the usual boomer /i have nothing else rhetoric
Where else can i buy my product from? If i can buy Australian i do and always will
So **** off with that idiotic logic
I am fighting to get manufacturing back in Australia... it was a losing battle because of kooks with your mindset, hopefully corona can change some of that
Im in for australia to manufacture a lot more then we have been.
I have a question. Cant find any details. No key words are getting me anywhere.
Some might know.
Do we manufacture our own glass and resin.
Is it viable for local surfboard manufacturers to use the local stuff.
I know most blanks are local. But ive never really read whats on the resin drums

Someone once said
Cheap ain't good and good ain't cheap.
It's like Ozito tools from bunnings sure they kinda suit a purpose and may get the job done but they aren't top quality. You end up paying more in the long run IMO. If you know what you want then but the best you can afford. I have boards from the 60s that are still as good as the day they were put on the shop floor.
Personally I'd be looking for good 2nd one from a decent shaper on Gumtree.
Yes Lacey. An entire board can be made from Aussie materials. Blanks, glass, resin etc.
Have a look at Pieter he uses all Aussie stuff and priced very competitively

Yawn. Same old petty arguments
Pretty full on reply chrispy
nothing will get generic manufacturing back in Australia , simply too expensive
But reckon surfers will always want to be able to buy local customs
clearwater will always have customers
so will mctavish
why ? cos they produce quality boards
so calm your farm no need to call people kooks and wish Carona on them
You get what you pay for ............. If price is an issue, talk to CW, jack knight or even Stuart Smith, they will make you a no frills surfboard. The advantage for you is their decades of experience plus you will have a chance to talk story and have a connection with the board. You won't get that at the SBW
As predicted the flaming arrived.
While I love Chrispy's patriotism and dream his tongue is quite sharp.
Other than that a lot of great advice and a bit of fun between regulars here.
Also have a look on Facebook market place. Lots of people unloading some bargains with the cooler weather.
Good luck with it.

Harsh no way,the point/argument old mate gave me is exactly what described in my reply...
It is the bottom of the barrel argument,it is idiotic and has no logic yet people like him love to trot it out....where do you buy your ,car undies all that idiot ****..
Mr vibes ,me wishing corona virus on him,wtf and lol...i hope that due to the Corona virus that manufacturing will get a kick on back in a Australia, not wish it on the kook
