Bolt, betraying no tiredness from his partying with half the Swedish women's handball team after he won the 100m final on Sunday night, was quick out of the blocks and powered around the bend to have the field covered by the first 100m.

New Zealanders celebrating their nation's Olympic achievements narrowly escaped unharmed when a barbecue exploded at London's Kiwi House.

FIRE ... IT IS BELIEVED GAS CANNISTERS FROM THE BARBECUES CAUSED THE EXPLOSION.

A crowd of about 300 was enjoying a barbecue dinner in a tropical gazebo outside New Zealand's Olympic headquarters in Kings Cross, central London on Wednesday when the fire started.

The barbecue chefs reportedly tried to douse the flames and the building was evacuated.

Up to two gas canisters attached to the barbecue reportedly exploded.

London Fire Service confirmed they were called to the blaze at about 7.20pm (London time).

Two fire engines and 10 firefighters attended the blaze and set up an emergency cordon in case of further gas explosions.

I heard that on the radio this morning - its good news but also sad.....it confirms our worst suspicions that athletes are still cheating and thinking that they will get away with it. Thats the sad part. I know that there will always be a proportion of athletes who cheat but I just wish there wasn't - human nature sadly.

Wasn't thinking about the Poms, but yes now I'm nervous. I'd rather get beaten by a Kiwi than a Pom.

Congrats on the extra Gold Medal and the performance in general. Now Belarus is leading the medal count per million of population with 1 testicle.

Now the Olympics is over, might be time to start a Bledisloe Cup Thread.

i think it stinks so much. missed out on the euphoria of winning gold because that he/it stole the glory. she might have the gold now the kiwi chick, yet she will never experience that feeling she should have felt at that precious moment in time...
in saying that, the kiwi chick was lucky to even be inside the stadium since those wonderful kiwi admin folk did not even have her entered

My favourite moments of the games - in no particular order.......

1. For some reason I love gymnastics - never did it as a kid but as I got older I tendered to appreciate the dinner points - here is Evgeniya Kanaeva of Russia winning gold.

2. Good Sportsmanship. I love it. When Queen Victoria aka Victoria Pendleton was beaten by her fiercest rival Anna Meares she put all the bad blood behind her and congratulated Anna on a job well done and told her that she was the worthy champion.

3. Good Sportsmanship thats even better. Sally wins gold (thank god for that) and Dawn Harper (the girl who won 4 years ago) and the other American who won bronze are straight over to congratulate Sally and are just soo stoked on their achievements. I thought it was awesome - well done to all!!!! I was almost crying.

4. The Bolt - no explanation required.

5. Mens 800m final. Everyone in the final ran a PB!!!! Thats about as good a race as you could ever have - everyone peaking at the right time. Loved it. And a WR to boot.

6. Phelps - love him or hate him he has won a shipload of medals and smokes bongs. Legend. And did Steph in her prime. Yep a legend.

7. Kiwi Gold. 6 is pretty farrrken good for our lot.

8. Bledisloe Cup - oh wait thats next week
