I recall the days of the $10 bottle.
Guys it's time to broaden your pallet.

I hear ya Scotty - just wished the lady liked those ones

15 years ago when I knew zero about wine, me and the Mrs would choose wine which had nice labels. We use to buy a 1 litre bottle named 'The returnable wine bottle company' for 10 bucks. When you returned the empty bottle you could purchase another bottle for $7.50. We drank all sorts of crap back then including Mc Guiggan black label. You have to start somewhere I guess.
These days I rarely spend less then $20 on a bottle and the dearest $130. Average price around $35 I reckon.
Purchase most of my wine direct from wineries and rarely buy from bottle shops (although Dans stock some good wine if I need it asap).

Scotty if you buy a bit of booze flick me a pm with your email addy and I'll forward you a folio. Our booze is pretty damn good and you'll get it at wholesale plus 10%
One of our wineries just took out gold and double gold at San Fran International for both Shiraz and Cab, only winery on earth to do so and they'll set you back about $23 a bot. Some killer Spanish plonk too...

Margaret River wines are pretty good. Recent purchases from Flying Fish Cove, Voyager, Driftwood, Churchview, Woody Nook and Greedy Sheep. But that is scratching the surface. Where do you work/own Smicko?

I'm a wholesaler Hilly, don't really want to blurt out where I work online but my offer is open to any of you guys. If you want good wines 30% cheaper than retail flick me a pm with an email addy and I'll send through a folio. Were allowed to do it but it'd just be a bit dodgy if any of our clients saw the business name online offering the service. The only proviso is that orders must be a minimum of 9lt (a case) Delivery is about $15 Oz wide IIRC.

Anywhere from $10 through to $55 a bottle, normal retail would be $15-$80
It's all good booze, our $10 Riesling picked up best wine in Oz under $20 from Halliday last year, got a Spanish red blend that has picked up four consecutive Blue Golds from Sydney international for under $15. Lotsa options, best bet is to let me know what you drink and I can recommend something. Can do mixed cases too.

This story is not a million miles away from the topic of wine, so that's why I've chosen this thread.

I have a surfing buddy who's sister had an over abundance of wine because her and her late husband had a vineyard, semillion I think, so my buddy got a still and started using it to make Brandy some months ago.

Fast forward to this morning, and I call him to see what he's doing as regards getting a wave, he said he could not do much because another mutual friend and surfing buddy had a nasty fall from a ladder and was in hospital with broken ribs and a punctured lung. Turns out he had just taken vacant possession of a shop and was trying to get it fixed up. While he was up a ladder taking down the old adhesive sign on the glass above the door with a hair dryer, he took the tumble and ended up in Mona-Vale Hospital.

Just so you know, this is not some millionaire retailer, he's a battler who lives in an old bus and would have struggled to put this deal together, with no certainty of a good outcome.

My mate was trying to finish the refurb of the shop by getting stuck into the painting, I had a few hours to spare, and so did another one of us. The other two looked after the painting while I concentrated on getting rid of the sign, scrapping years of dirt off the window frame and glass, popping a few seals back into place end getting the AC unit cleaned and working.

Okay, the scene is finally set.

Buddy number 1 thinks we may be in need of some fortification, so he breaks out a hip flask with a sample of his last batch, I take a small swig, and straight away I begin to lament the loss of a functional esophagus, buddy number 2 takes a swig, and once again, moans in pain. Neither of us request a follow up taste and we get back to our jobs.

There was a lot of residual glue of the glass, both from the stick on sign and from celotape that the previous people had been using to hang posters. I've got plenty of good products at home to fix this problem, but the most we had was turps and it was not really doing the job.

Then my mate says, why don't you try the Brandy, so I figure "why not" it did a pretty good job of removing the lining from my throat.

I sh!t you not boys and girls, this stuff was bloody brilliant

I had everything off in no time flat, I told him he's better off using it as a paint stripper than drinking the bloody stuff

There was no way I could walk past this when I was in Dan Murphys picking up a case of piss.

I have absolutely no idea if it's drinkable, the surfing theme hooked me, I'll take it with me on the weekend and give it to Vanders to have a glass, if he does not throw up, I'll take the bottle off him and drink the rest myself

Is there really a break called "Cow Bombie" over there

Those of you that received my email noting the Cabernet that got Double Gold in San Fran etc didn't act fast enough, after Ray Jordan's 98pt review over the weekend we've flogged over 300 dozen this week. It's gone.
Give you a tip fellas, if you get a hot tip from me jump on it 'cos it won't last long. That wine was one of three 2014 Cabs awarded Double Gold from the second biggest wine show on Earth. It missed out on the gong for best Cab in the World by one point. And all for under $23.
They also took Gold for their Shiraz, the ONLY winery in the world to win gold for both their Shiraz and Cab from the same site. It's a pretty special vineyard.

That particular winery is very small batch booze, there was only a 1000 cases of that Cabernet made and about the same of Shiraz, to put that in perspective there's well over 10,000 cases of Grange produced each year. The current vintage of Shiraz is in Halliday's new book at 96pts and RRP of $34 ($23 for you lot) the current vintage of Grange didn't rate a mention in Halliday's new book and retails at $785.

I'm making nada on any of these orders that you guys place, I've organised all the orders to go through my admin girl to lift her online sales. As I said though if you want to pick my brains, give me a bell. If you have a favourite wine that you drink there's a very good chance that we'll have something at half to two thirds the price that will kick it's arse.

We recently called into Devils Corner winery and my missus was happy to try everything white - " I hate red wine and don't want to try any reds"

The lady at cellar door gave her a glass of their best pinot and insisted she at least give it a try!!!!!!!

Yep - left there $65 poorer

Mate, thanks for the email and I'll be in touch in a couple of weeks for a case of Castelli Chardy. My stock of Shiraz is up as I haven't been drinking much over the cooler months.
