Nice link Daneli.

He came from the same area I believe as where those style boards originated from and shaping in the US at the time.
He moved to Oz and kept going on his own little path, nuts that he still makes them all these years later. Has to be something in that

There's a good bit McTavish's book about one branch of these types of boards. That I have probably misquoted above.

It's interesting how they kinda spawned and different people went down different paths.

While we are all retro here's another mid type board

Patagonia Ambassador Belinda Baggs rides a surfboard designed in 1968 by fellow Patagonia Ambassador Wayne Lynch. This design came to Wayne in a dream and he called it the Involvement Model. It became the one board quiver that he rode around the world. Nearly forty five years later, Belinda explores what riding that surfboard feels like.

When we look back at that time, we can see that in a few little hotbeds of surfboard design around the globe, boards were getting shorter, outlines were getting curvier, rails were coming down in volume, fins were getting sleeker and moving forward. Wayne Lynch?s Involvement Model is a classic example of these kind of transition era boards.

So it?s interesting to me at least to see Belinda go back to this kind of transitional board four decades later and reinterpret it with a kind of postmodern retrospective, as a woman with her own rich heritage in Australian surfing; as a well-rounded quiver enthusiast familiar with both the longer & shorter ends of surfcraft; & of course as a world-class logger.

The prescribed , standard issue Beerfine for failing and/or neglecting to pimp the fark out of your new girl to your Greenroom mates and or brothers is designated as:-

2 x 6packs of full strength Oshstralian beer

now what muddies these pristine waters is the fact that Brother Lacey flits , warbles & downright sneakily utilises the Public Barbies across the road in the park

Last time we got pics from mister Lacey , we had some old biddy stripping in the apartment block window behind his condo

SP mate .... that lacey is a Cunninglinguous frother who knows every trick in the Midlength book

Fark it , I will beerfine the 12.6 out of him anyway

I find midlengths to be 'glass 1/2 full/ glass 1/2 empty boards........ glass 1/2 empty- don't paddle as well as longboards/ don't turn as well as shortboards. Glass 1/2 full- turn better than longboards/paddle better than shortboards. Fact is though they are the most versatile craft in the water. If you go a McCoy nugget in the longer lengths you also get a midlength that paddles like a longboard!
