The camera has a plastic piece shaped like a star that uses permanent 3m tape then the mount clamps onto the plastic piece and the camera mounts onto the mount.

They use 3M VHB permanent tape onto the board, not sure if screwing into a board would be a good idea?

Thanks Henry been married 20 years any screwing is a good thing .

Next stupid question , I take it for more then 1 board you would need more then 1 mount , ie. the mount is not interchangeable , is the camera changeable from board to board or do you need one camera and 1 mount per board . BTW thanks for taking the time to answer my queries

check out the go-pro fcs plug option - does your Contour have anything like that? Perm tape is good but it can come off - fcs plugs can also fail but unlikely too. I installed an fcs plug and an additional legrope plug as a secondary back up - so I can tie the camera to the board as well. Never had a drama. Expensive toys to lose! I will try and remember to take a shot tonight to show you what I mean.

In an ideal world you would have a mount on each board and then just switch the camera between them.

Permanent tape doesn't come off. I spoke to the folks at 3M and they told me this is one of the strongest adhesives that can withstand temps upto 300 degrees celsius. The only way to get it off is getting fishing wire under it to pry it off. Contour would not use something that would come off on a surfboard mount. You can buy new bases and use the same mount. I have added a pic of it. Let me know if you guys need to know anything else.

Kadi is a tight awse and bought a crappy waterproof video camer from ebay and stuck it on the board with "Scotch heavy duty fasteners". It is a bit like velcro but both halves are the hook rather than the loop, very secure.

I also made a wedge that I could use to put between the board and the camera to adjust the angle of the camera (el cheapo door stops with more of this velcro stuff). Aaaannnnnnddd, used a self adhesive picture hook (cut down so it was not dangerous) to tether the camera onto the board in case the camera gets knocked off the board, still tied on bobbing about in the water.

Not bad for a cheap attempt, was never going to make a real movie, just happy snaps.

I got mine from office works but this is the fastener:
http://au.discount-cabin.com/shop/product_info.php/rf9731-count-scotch-reclosable-fasteners-black-p-45920

Most self adhesive attachments can be removed with isopropyl alcohol (from bunnings)
