im a real newbie.. so 700-800 meters seems ridiculous to me! is that even possible? i can't even imagine what it would feel like to ride a wave that long!

i dont think iv caught a wave longer than 50m and that felt like ages!

True surfer is the one who is always looking for where the waves are big they can get. I will provide some information for the surfers. Peru is a country that has good waves for surfing precisely in Mancora, Cabo Blanco and Organos this is part of a great place to surf especially in November and March. no longer a beach has good waves for surfing in Peru is Chicama. Chicama has the longest wave in the world. Chicama is located about an hour and a half northwest of Trujillo.

My shot wasnt chicama. Chicama on the same day was 3ft and not linking up according to a mate who risked it and went down there. Meanwhile we had smoking 5 footers all day. Yew.

From what i hear chicama never links up.

In 88 it did I missed it on the way down but another Aussie got it at 6 to 8 foot waves ran thought to just short of the jetty.

I surfed it at 4 to 6 foot and 3 waves to the jetty on my way back up only time in 35 years of surfing I ever got wobbly legs.

Later they had the Peruvian championship comp there were around 60 guys in the water at times and it wasn't crowed!

Cold water but went out one day with another guy 3 to 4 foot (we were the only people out on the day)and the fog was so thick after we scored the 1st waves we never caught sight each other for over 2 hours in the water and walking back out to the take off point.

In those days hanging at Chicama ( Hombres) was hard work used to go back into Huanchaco for R&R.

Remember they had a dog (El Pero) drank fly poison, Hombre and his daughter tried forcing sea water down its throat, swinging it by the tail etc, Pero didn't respond so they left him on the beach to die it was a stinking hot day.

I got Pero and put him in the shade with some water, fed him etc next day he was fine trotting around like nothing had happened.

Sorry everyone I spent a year surfing from Mexico to South America 87 / 88 photos got me going.

It does look awfully familiar, but never seen that spot so overcast. Maybe I'm wrong....

Yeah,Typical tropical low weather up north, it looks like the break out front of a disused windmill and sheep yards spot.

Well done soleman, it was taken in the mid 80's and was the best I'd ever surfed it. Double head in the barrel and the most perfectly round barrel I'd seen. Margs was also going off and was bigger so everyone was there, only myself and one mate had it to ourselves for about 4 hours from memory. I won't mention the name it might upset someone.

Would not be too worried about naming it Zuke, very well known now although when the swell is a good size it still is pretty uncrowded as most people look straight past it!, Can't believe how glassy it is in that photo, pretty rare day eh.

flame suit ready, but I must say... I prefer when people post their own photos, from their own experiences.

seems a little pointless to post pics from other websites etc

yep no dramas...but take this thread for example - "great lineups"...have a read of kearnsy's initial post.

I could scour the web for pics of the sickest waves on the planet but there is no substance, personal experience or story behind the pic...just seems pointless to me. Ive seen all those pics before in the glossy mags. I like to see grass roots surfing pics here.

Anyways, just me...as you were.
