stabmag.com/news/an-interview-with-maya-gabeira-about-drowning-at-nazare/

She says her lifejacket was ripped off. That could explain why she was so out of breath and not seeing clearly by the time the ski got to her. He also wouldn't have known her ankle was broken.

Its easy with hindsight and full knowledge to second-guess. He had to make decisions based on what he could see and hear.

They are both going to have to change things for the future as that wasn't the best result. She is going to use a different lifejacket and make sure it will stay on.

They may have a second rescue ski in future.

Naw - it passed to the South. Portugal got the big stuff.

It looks like they CPR'd her on a good stretch of beach but they say without the tow she would have washed up on the rocks. I guess the current she talked about was a pretty strong rip.

Nazare looks a pretty hairy spot.

The guy on the ski was a tool. She survived the pummelling from the wave but almost didn't survive the "water safety". Makes you appreciate how cool the boys on the skis have to be under pressure. That guy was obviously not.

hopefully we will hear her side of the story soon.

Well yeah i do practice???

Carlos made the wrong decision, the type of pickup was the wrong.

In my opinion he caused her damage and drowning so I'm glad she ok now

sir jedi here and his surf buddy are probably 2 of the best on the east coast (at least) at what they do and i tend to agree with whats said, but im not sure if carlos had an idea that she was in such a bad way.

and for the record ive always thought lard hamsoloton was a tosser.
