I don't really have any questions Legion, was just wondering if anybody had an first hand knowledge of the product as it looks like its what everybody has been asking for from and interchangeable device perspective. How much does it weigh? Enough for you to get an extra ltr of volume in the board to compensate?
It seems to have been thoroughly tested, but I think I've heard people say on here that, that statement isn't strictly true?
If all the claims are right then this is a game changer for all you WA crew surely?
It's great to see new products on the market. Seems like they are addressing a few of the issues re interchangeable between boards. Personally my money is spent with the localy produced deterant.

Well I know one person who would have thorough first hand knowledge ...

I think it's been tested as described but the field of competitors wasn't as broad as some on here hoped. So while they can say (paraphrasing) "the only one that worked" they mean (paraphrasing) "the only one that worked from the field of competitors that wasn't as broad as some on here hoped".
They are local based. Dunno where the devices are produced (I remember reading the concept originated in South Africa before Lindsay bought it) but the owners live locally and the son is a local grom (not so much any more) who rips. You'll regularly see him up and down the WA coast.
I agree this is what a lot of people have been asking for. I'll watch with interest to see how many start appearing on boards. They're much more obvious than Dave's so they'll be easy to spot.
Also interesting to see how low profile the kick tail is in the final product because that thing is fugly.
I wouldn't think the weight would require volume compensation given e.g. I weigh probably well over 100 times, maybe 200 times what it would weigh.
Is this the first interchangeable shark deterrent? Anybody know much about it?
Actually it's not the first interchangeable unit. Surfsafe have a new model which is interchangeable that has recently come out. It's quite similar to the old model but that main unit snaps in and out of each board. I have 2 boards going in this week for fitting so will post up my thoughts once done.
Interesting. I'll look forward to the thoughts. Be good if Dave came in and told us all about it too.

I'm happy to back the home-grown product, have the original unit in my go to board, keen to get the housing pack installed to other boards as well now.
Just a general question Dave, what are the power outings of your unit and the Shark Shield unit?
So are you selling bare antenna packs as well now Dave, so people can swap the electronics between boards?
And blanking plates so when you sell your board you sell it without the brains and just lose the antenna?
the power output on all our products are the same as the SS diving product that was tested I don't have any output data on the new shark shield product ???
would be interested to know .
hi Toby the sub is included with the antenna/housing kit for a total of $60 we have heaps in stock
you can see the sub in the shop on the site.
looks like the device but weighs 60gms and toolless fit same as our device
plug n play
The big question Dave..... How much will it cost to BUY and FIT the housing if you already have the original SurfSafe device?
cheers Mick
Hey mick the front and back plug need to be changed so it is almost a full install again but if existing customers need an upgrade we will do a good deal
Looks like a winner Dave. Hope it makes you the $$$.
How about carrying your board up the beach? I usually carry with the bottom flat against my side/torso, nose forward, fins tucked behind. I'm guessing that doesn't work when things are wet?

Once you lift it up, you don't seem to get any shocks after that. TBH i often find I'm testing to see if it works as subtle changes in my hand placements have meant i often forget its even their.
Actually my Dominator my son has stolen and taken ownership and even he has made comments he didn't think it was working, only to test it himself. The shock is nothing..
Dave - I have an SDS and to be honest have stopped wearing it due to the micro shocks I receive from it.
Are there any reports of static sensations being felt by the user?
Both the new devices (SHark shield and Rpela) look good and viable for use without compromising board performance. Obvious pros and cons involved with each. They say competition breeds innovation - seems to be the case here. Big difference though is Dave had no government funding whereas SS did. Good work to get it up and running Dave
Good to see some innovative ideas for interchangeable units. Rpela looks great pretty much what everyone is wanting. Curious though Dave you mentioned you were not keen on the idea of stickers for the electrodes. Its hard to see how they are installed on your board in the vid. Did you end up going with stickers or are the electrodes still needed to be installed in the board?
Cheers

I knows Dave's under the pump currently so ill answer. Its the same as previous. Still needs to installed in the board. Same as previous system but with the brains interchangeable between boards.
Relooking at both devices I reckon shark shield one is still too big. They need to fit it in a normal kick pad size. Am thinking at this point repla wins out in the lack of annoyNce stakes while surfing. Only issue is the permanent mod to the board required but that's ok if ya don't resell boards often.

Apparently it weighs 250g right on the tail block, not sure how much this would affect performance but it does seem excessive. One other pitfall would be the electrode sticker wrapping around the rail, if this gets damaged it will not function. Rpella doesn't need tools either so IMO is a much simpler system
I am no trying to be smart and please prove me wrong, but your reproductive organs are exposed to EMF and if you have kids and aren't planning to have more that's fine.
we are currently having SGS certify our product and they believe you will get more harmfull effects from carrying your mobile Phone in your pocket

Just go for a dump before your surf
Small performance issue for increased life expectancy seems like a pretty fair trade to me. Unless you are a top level / semi pro I doubt you would notice it. I ride a variety of boards with diff weights - I like a bit more weight when its windy, big or messy.
I think Dave's interchangeable device is a great concept. Love the effort he has put on this. Keep up the good work Dave.
