What is it with the need to describe everything on every wave
Its verbal diarrhea
Compare joeys call which seems to happen as the wave is surfed and what potter says when talking about it in the replay
More sense in far less words

Has occy been shunted? I haven't seen him anywhere during this event.

^yes occy gone

The new model has ufc style round table discussions and nfl style panels talking about "coach' parsons.

They want to reach the biggest possible audience, sell as many clothes and products as possible and rape surfing for all it's worth.

Just watched the final
Have to say that Joel was very unlucky
Not sure what heat the judges were watching
Joel was getting barreled every wave whereas Medina was just doing his run of the mill taps off the top

Couldnt agree more. Parko made four barrels including coming out of a bull**** one behind the rock. Medina did not even attempt a single barrel. For me a bunch of backhand hacks was not enough to win vs parko's flow and barrels

And I'm usually Joel's biggest critic
I think he normally gets favoured by the judges often winning heats by 0.01 of a point
But that finals scoring was really difficult to comprehend
Even the Brazos on the asp forum were surprised (not all of them)
Maybe this is the new ASP

I would have to agree there, Joel was ripping the whole final on bigger waves.

Was a good comp overall imo.

Yeah im not really a huge Joel fan either. He just looked so smooth all heat.. Medina had on a few of his best waves very wobbly moments nearly coming unstuck...

I watched it after knowing the result and at 6 minutes i was hanging to see what Medina did to pull it out of the bag. Then the acres dropped for his waves and i was like "Were did that come from?" The beach didn't really even applaud them. Very disappointing IMHO

From the little I watched, conspiracy in? Marketing needs the hype of young up and comers ripping instead of the vets to draw the crowds so maybe there was a bit of secretive 'nudge nudge' somewhere in the judging?

I'm not too fussed regardless, Quickie Pro Snappers, usually means one thing for me - the coming of winter when all the summer 'surfers' stop surfing and the beach becomes a crowd less paradise that is the pre/ post work stress release surf.

If you'd like to see a great example of incredibly suspect judging, checkout the entire heat between julian Wilson and Brett Simpson Round 2, Heat 4, of the 2014 Billadong Rio Pro. Related to the critique, I there's a commentators discussion about qualifying and naming the difference between and 'air reverse', and a 'forehand air with a full rotation' .. Also earlier on the round 2 broadcast, I think in heat 2, there's a discussion and bullet point table of the judging criteria. So check the wilson vs simpson heat.

Are my eyes playing tricks on me?

I don't understand your point? Were you saying that Brett deserved the win? I though Julian won that heat for sure, more than what the scores reflected. Not really biased either as I wanted Brett to win, I like to see the underdog get up (as long as they're not surfing against one of my FS team surfers.)
