I would order a surfbent if I where you. I've had some serious crashes and no damage at all.
If not copy the form so to a bigger area of the nose is protected and the force will be distributed over a larger area. I'm pretty sure you will end up denting you deck this way.

Totally agree. Buy a surf bent
or a jezza knob. I learnt to foil with one and it saved my nose and saved $$$ in repairs.

Looks practical. Nice job. Your first idea with the rubber block, I had visions of the rubber acting as a leverage block and yanking your mast foot out of the board.... darn imagination!

You guys are correct!! Just talked to Wyatt earlier and he told me the exact same thing. I won't notice a difference of noodle weight.

I can't wait to get foiling!!! About 1 more month to go, weather permitting and I'm off for my first foiling experience! I just hope I won't have any equipment failure like I'm hearing from several here. I will be on fresh water only and will disassemble the foil after every session.

What foil do you have? I'm on Dialer 130 & SlingShot 76wing pos B 900mast & small stab. About 5hrs & 100+ km so far. Love it. 4.5,5.0,5.7&6.2 sails 5.0&6.2 have just come back from the repairer board is fine, small dent on nose becareful about constantly pulling apart and reassembly. Threads in the Ali can get wrecked. Get a good lube and only disassemble fortnightly/ monthly depending on use. Don't over tighten but also check each session that the bolts are actually tight. happy FlyNoDie!

I have the SS i84 and gamma 68 front wing package with the 42 stab with the 90cm mast. Just purchased a nsi teather leash to attach to the upper mast and secure it at the foot strap. Also just got a mechanical mast base for easy attachment in the water. I think I have everything I need. Now I need to get over the flu, save my my money and get out on that board and have some fun!

Glad you're enjoying the dialer! Makes me more and more eager to get out their hearing all about the fun you all are having.

Thanks! I now see your logic on the rubber block idea.

I'll try and get a pick today if I get the board out of my van but in the learning stage I used both a Jezs' knob and pool noodle.

Jezs Knob - works okay but didn't stop all impacts (thus experimenting with pool noodle). The only negative I found was if you have to do a rig flip before water starting or change board direction the knob really gets in the way.

Pool Noodle - I cut the noodle in half (length ways) and then hot glue gunned it in 3 x 40cm sections to the top of the deck around the nose. Works perfectly. I was worried it would peel the paint/deck (Naish Hover) off if it came off but so far (2-3 re-applications) the paint job is perfect. Negatives - falls off if you have a big impact, has the potential to "cover" any damage that may occur under the noodle. Makes the board look a bit lame but who cares. Total cost $3.

I strongly recommend playing with any potential settings you can as well, to find the sweet spot where you have good control as well as enough lift.

Wondering if there are any glues that would be easy to remove once you dont want the noodle anymore, something with a solvent that wont eat the board but will the glue? Just starting to crash at speed now (8 sessions) and feeling its only a matter of time until the nose gets damaged. Might just try taping (duct tape/cloth back) the noodle to the board with tape going underneath the board. Would like to be able to remove the noodle later. Board is a Slingshot wizard 125 and Im loving it.

Might look at fixing the noodle to the mast instead using a "clip" like we used to for mast protectors last century. That would be easier to remove when (if) its not needed anymore.

Just noticed OP when browsing foiling forum and thought might be worth sharing some pics of my mast mounted nose protector. Have since experimented with attaching it via a short fixed length of rope to underside of boom (where uphaul rope would attach) as original position was too dependent on position of (lower) boom cut-out in sail.

Had 2 good crashes yesterday and my homemade noodle nose protector saved the day twice!
