Well I would've thought that with the windsurfing market being as small as it is, Starboard is risking cannibalizing their own sales by having Severne market boards as well. I guess they know what they are doing (next up - Starboard sails... and a Severne slalom board).
If Starboard does own Severne 100% it wouldn't matter, all combined moneys would go into the same bank account ????
You're assuming SB don't drop a proven favourite to cover it with a new and slightly different SV product that the market doesn't interpret as an acceptable equivalent replacement. Personally I love my Starboard boards but I have disliked the Severne sails that I have owned and hence off loaded, it would take a hell of a lot of convincing for me to buy a Severne board as a consequence of my experience with their sails. I guess its a psychological thing
I'm the opposite. I was so impressed by Severne sails that now I'm thinking about their boards.
Everyone in the NP video was on 4.5 saw one 5. is this a trend to go on small sails or just for the photo shoot?
There are a couple reasons why Severne (a Starboard group Co) is making boards.
The best reason is a different factory and different way of building boards.
CMC - Compressed Molded Composites.
The boards ( Fox / Nano ) come out of high-pressure molds.
Cobra factory has a monopoly on windsurf board building - so they really can dictate market pricing.

I think Ben and his business associates are capitalising on his referent power. He and they realise the value of a brand just like Richard Branson. The leveraging of boards and other gear up the Severne sail brand makes great sense. Remember Ben is a great and talented sailor of world class standard and great sail designer and people seem to like him and recognise him and follow him as a leader in all he does in windsurfing. He gets better every year in his sailing and as he does so so does his referent power. This is why so many people in WA in particular have his gear (aside from sponsored team riders) and they follow him. WA is the Severne window to the world backed of course by the Starboard network and deep pocket. Indeed Severne's phenomenal market success to date would no doubt make an interesting case study at business schools.
I should further explain that "Referent power" is one of the Five Bases of Social Power, as defined by Bertram Raven and his colleagues in 1959. Definition: Referent power refers to the ability of a leader to influence a follower because of the follower's loyalty, respect, friendship, admiration, affection, or a desire to gain approval.
Bottom line great gear, excellent name, top designs make a great formula for success. I don't use the gear but I recognise the consummate professional Ben is. I have no doubt Ben has worked hard to build the brand.
Snuck that up Spotty.......It,s a 2018 version of the KAGPS boards I did last year ...as shown below...under a new name.
Managed to finish the website if anybody is interested...don't go too hard on me Grammar Police it's still a WIP

Hadn't planned to but certainly something to consider on the bigger board. Thanks for the suggestion.

No probs, seems like a no brainer for board companies to have the new larger boards ready for foils. Not everyone will have a foil but if it's possible to plug one in then some certainly will.
It will be a consideration when I replace my 125l board.
An Atomic might be the go!!
