Just in the process of starting my own electrical & air conditioning Company. Starting from humble beginnings, I'm trying to think of unique ways of advertising.
Has anyone tried putting stickers on their sails or other gear, does it work? Has anyone got any cheap but effective ways of getting work? Anyone need a sparky??
Would love some input, enjoy Easter!
Check the recent thread out about advertising. Hot Sails Maui appear to be able to stitch together sails with advertising built in. I think it's a great way to advertise your business plus it will make windsurfing equipment tax deductible.
Have done, thanks .
Lee, i have been told that you just need to put advertising stickers on your sails and buy them through the business, then they can be tax deductible. Might be worth checking with your accountant though.
Not sure if it will get you much work, but it can cut the cost of new gear.
Good luck with the business!
and then you can pay yourself or a mate the go windsurfing,,, yeah right... the sticker or the cost of the printing is a deduction not the sail... and even then its a bit dodgy ...
you could buy gear through your self managed super fund, as an " investment " though. . just don't tell them how bad an investment it is..
I have literally just last week ordered advertising stickers for my business to go on my sails as a result of the earlier thread about this. My info is the same as what Kev said so all my future windsurfing purchases will be made using my work credit card. I run a promotional merchandise business and have my back window of my car decalled up too so fingers crossed if I only catch 1 persons interest and job then it is objective achieved.
Lee I went and got unvarnished vinyl as varnished would have been twice the price and not nescessarily any better.
I'll let you know how they last.
This might be what you are after

This is what Hot Sails Maui can do. Looks good.
Accountants...... well what about all the advertising seen on sailing boats? I bet the sail racing industry would fall on its arse if the ATO decided the costs of advertising on sails could not be deducted against any income related to that advertising.
Would the GPS Teams Challenge count as organised competition?
believe me i pay her loads of money.. so if you have a non sailing company you can deduct WS gear from your tax, if you joint a club that competes . . as advertising.. far out .. thats a cracker !!! . new gear here i come
You can also say your sponsoring a local hotshot and buying him his gear in return for him advertising you name on the equipment, the same way as you can sponsor a local footy team and supplying the clothes with your name on it.
Then just claim it as advertising
Then it just happens that he always has to leave the stuff a your house as he has nowhere to store it.
I wouldn't even bother about the stickers
i cant see the tax man at you local beach with his socks and shoes off looking for a sail with your name on it just cause your claiming a couple of grand for advertising
i dont think the tax man watches every grand prix just to make sure he can see all the stickers on the helmet and cars
theres no law on how you choose to advertise
Just keep your receipts to prove what you spend
Plus daddy always told me not to mix work with pleasure, i go to the beach to forget work not to find it.
When you get paid to enjoy your hobby, WORK is a four letter word.
I'm with Gazza...although the idea of subsidising the cost of some kit through my business sounds very tempting, I rely on word-of-mouth mainly & honestly...my brain is constantly thinking of work (which I do enjoy as a career), hitting the water switches my brain off work & into reset mode.
If I looked up & saw my logo/details on my sail every few minutes, I doubt I'd enjoy it as much & would probably be constantly going through client's jobs/bills/deadlines etc.
