Smart means of transportation heavy gear to the ferry\
For ultra high tech catamaran ferry speeding at 23.7 knots it takes 45 minutes to get from Cairns to Green Island.Funny to think that our tiny, plastic boards could speed over same water much faster then that
Rigging could be tricky when you have so many competitors, need to protect National Park greenery and avoid stacking in the sandy beach same time. Big plastic sheets did the flooring job perfectly.
my 5.0 meters sail becomes more like 4.5 by the end of the 35+ wind 1 hour race
another casualty in first race, that is how snapped rope by the boom/mast clamp could end up
I didn't know that Green Island is the home to the oldest (110 y.o) and the biggest crock in the world !! Cassius
On the way back after the event we top up ferry with our windsurfing gear to the max.
One more board and possibly had to sail Cairn on his own. Such trip ( Green Island -Cairns) was done already , I heard, but wind is usually dying on the last kilometer of the land...so be careful as hungry crocks and nasty Jelly waiting for you there
^^^^
Good posting Macro, it's interesting to get an idea of the logistics of competing on GI. Well done on your freerace results. Except for the last day, you got faster every day.
I wore and All Blacks shirt, but didn't do them justice...Best event..30+ knots everyday, just like the forecast said. If only I believed!!!!
classic, will try and make it next year for sure. Is there any chance it could be moved like 1-2weeks later? As its during uni exams here....

Unfortunately we have to run it on a week of the BIGGEST tides so we can maximise the sailing time (it gets pretty shallow when you don't link the tides)....
The tracks are rendered out of custom software I developed called "Freerace Master". The final video mastering (mixing in audio and photos etc) was done with Windows Movie Maker. The software is used on-site at events to load tracks and give instant results for freerace events, and then can produce replay videos of the events.
I'm planning to make FRMaster available more generally this year so you can use it yourself. There is a bit of work to be done still to make it easier to use (and install.)
Contact me any time (dylan@ka72.com) if you want more info or would like to be kept up to date with what we're doing.
Cheers,
Dylan.
I wonder , Dylan if that is possible to display by the dot/competitor actual speed .
Maybe as option ? , maybe that clog the screen too much ? It could be worth to see one example if that helps to even more exiting virtual race watching.
or display speeds in the table next to distance ?
Anyway great job made already
Returning to the speed, I think optimal will could be speed in this column updated every 1 second .
Taking into account that movie rewind much faster then real time event it could be max speed at corresponding period.
