I am looking to get a new (second hand) car so I can once again go windsurfing.

You're back!

spot Owain

Gday Haircut, classic video. Many good memories.

Are you still driving a Commodore? also I was trying to think what car Brendan drove as from memory it was smallish.

I am sorry you will never sell me on a hatchback if you windsurf. As a petrolhead I sold the 240kw Laser TX3 which all the gear fitted in. It fitted, but it was a fkn pain.
Getting away with the minimum is fine until you want to give a mate a lift to the beach or girlfriend wants to come with you (whilst wife is at home )

I can't understand the logic of "can't park a Commodore/Falcon wagon in the city". 10,000 people will tomorrow.

Agree, no way is it impossible but does make it more difficult.

I got away with a hatchback for many years and never had an issue (except for the Mrs having to sit in the back seat) but I think roof racks will be the solution to that problem this time around.

An outback also sounds interesting...

Roof racks means you can't park anywhere for decent length of time (unless you like leaving $5K on the roof)

Bite the bullet - wagon or van Owain.

I have previously had Nissan Pulsars, 3 of them in fact and all N14 Hatches (1990 - 1995) which always fitted my gear inside. I just thew the front seat back and put the back seats down and my gear would fit in no problem.

I always carry minimal gear, 1 board (currently JP Freestyle 100L) and 2 sails.

Can anyone recommend cars that would be suitable ? I have never used roof racks before and it always seem easier to put all my gear inside the car. I am thinking of a Peugeot 307 but not sure if it will be big enough.

Cheers,
O

I regularly fit 2 waveboards, 1 surfboard, 4 sails, 1 skateboard and a small dog in my '95 Peugeot 306. 600+ Km on the open road, can't go wrong. Only drawback is no CD player, but the mixer tapes get a good workout.

Yes very true, don't fix it if it ain't broken.

I would love nothing more than to still be sailing in QLD but I will be in Sydney for a few years yet.

How is the freestyle going? Is the Train and Shearwater still sailable?

2 trips to WA from sydney in my HJ 202 auto that car would still be going if it wasn't for the rust
Bought a HZ 253 Aussie 4 speed after the HJ I loved that V8
Never had any problems with either car mechanically
Sadly they both ended up in Holden heaven
