After being a tea bagger for the last 14 years I was determined to rediscover the joys of pole dancing.
Day one on Maui I struggled out to the reef and after a humiliating walk of shame back to the house I spent half an hour in the spa licking my wounds. I was beginning to think it was a really bad idea.
Then slowly the old skills (to the extent they ever existed) started to return and by day 4 I had relinquished my death grip on the boom and was able to survive 30 - 40 minute sessions, but there is no denying extra 15 kg I carry around is a bit more critical than it is on a kite board.
I still have a long way to go before venturing out into the sweepy washing machine that is Narrowneck on the Goldy but am loving every minute as a reborn windsurfer.
Thanks Ian and Michael for organising the windsurfing trip of a lifetime and thanks Dazza, Bretto and Paul for the great company. Don't forget to tune up your Ukuleles for next year.

There is about 5 or 6 shops over there that hire gear. We went to Adventure Sports Maui who are the Pryde/Jp dealers because that's what we know and like and the guys where excellent. You get a board and 2 rigs for a set price per day and you can go back and swap and change as much as you like at no extra cost. Some of us had 2 boards and 3 rigs but after a day or 2 you will pretty much work out what you need for the conditions that are there 98% of the time. Other than a couple of times when the wind wasn't quite as strong i was on the same set up every day. Start on a 4.5 then drop to the 4.0 after maybe an hour of 2 when the wind increases. Pretty much all the gear is 2013 and we even got hold of some 2014 prototype and photo shoot gear so you aren't sailing on crap. Some of the other shops but not all have a bit of older stuff floating around so it depends on what you want to sail on. The stuff a couple of the guys got from Naish was pretty new too.

They have everything, its Maui and its very windy in summer.

Yeah they literally do have 3.2 in stock and some 60 odd litre boards.
weeks later and i just want to duck gybe again in some wind.....bring on these northerlies!!!

I've been substituting my dream with trips to arrawarra, our own little kanaha some people refer to as burrum and agnes waters is next on the agenda.
