Hi
would be interested but only something like a lechner. It always seems to get the best reviews/raves, so for me, no point to get another "nice" but realistically uncompetitive board [not that I'm even remotely a competitive sailor!!], like my Mistral EQ1 .5 & EQ2 are compared to that flippin Phantom....

Something else to consider. A friend used a 20' container to ship his dinghy from Melbourne to San Fran. This cost more than $4000AUD and didn't include duties and such. This was a container packed at the shipping yard and unpacked at the other end in the yard. If there is any additional transport of the container, or storage, this would increase the cost.
Sometime ago, I asked a couple of quotations to ship some D2s to Australia...I think it was something around CAD 3000 or so, for 4-6 boards, similar then...I've been told most important thing to save on it is to put them in a box. We save a lot on the volume. This is the volume that is expensive.
I looked at customized box designed for 5-6 boards that is no so easy to find and can be expensive also...
I need to search again....
(Dave: This type of sails above are cheap here...We can bargain for less than CAD or USD 100...Must pay attention to their shape though.)
Dave
Subject to confirmation it could be something like this:
1 or 2 Davidson
1 or 2 Cobra Olympic Lechner
1 Mistral M1
1 Tornado proto
1-2 Reix Competition
1 Reix Pro
1-2 Alpha..
1-2 Sailboard Regatta...
Some are in perfect shape, other need to be repaired.
All are real D2s and absolutely convenient to train and restart D2 in Australia.
We need to regroup all these boards 1st....then further evaluate costs for shipment (shared container)
Our objective is to help you, nothing else, and make it workable for you guys. No personal interest from our side here.
I keep you all posted ;)
THe Dobleman is looking great,so much bigger is the nose than compared to my Davidson which has also been given a bit of a make over
^^^^hi Peter, is that the Davidson that Bev had advertised up your way a couple of years ago (along with a couple of lechners, DB2's etc) ?
Hi Guys,
So we've made our homework here on East Coast of US and we could ship to Sydney up to 13-15 D2 boards, ranging from early 80s to mid 90s Cobra Lechner Olympic Design / Davidson boards
This includes the following boards:
1 Tornado 39 (need work)
2 Tornado Div 2 (need work)
1 Tornado prototype Surfpoint - ISR made - Tornado like (need work)
2 Alpha Phantom (need work)
2 Sailboard Races (top shape)
1 Mistral M1 with M1 original 6.5 sail! (top shape)
1 Reix Competition + original 6.5 Reix sail (very good shape)
2 Cobra Lechner (top shape)
1 Davidson (top shape)
(Maybe another Davidson also that we need to pick )
Prices will be ranging from USD 50-100 (depending of repair needs) up to USD 650 + shipment costs
Based on that volume, (13-15 boards) we estimate that shipping costs should be around USD 2500...so divided by 13-15, it is another USD 150 - 200 roughly to be added to each of board price.
It means also that most expensive ones (Cobra Lechner, Davidson...) should remain below USD 1000, delivered to Australia!
(as a comparison, a Davidson or a Lechner A390 in good shape in Europe worth ...Euros 850 at least !...and you need to go picking it!)
We can add a couple of 7.5 B sails as said previously
The beauty with D2 is that you don't need to have the most performant one to be the best and beat your friends...
You need to train hard 1st! Means train hard on a Reix, a Tornado DII or an M1 or even a Sailboard Race and you can beat a Lechner!!
This is all we can do for OZ now and we believe it is good enough to restart D2 momentum in Australia...
Let us know your thoughts ;)
This won't be too much help but I've just been over in Holland on a canal boat just having a family holiday. At one stage I turned around an could count 9 RBs & D 1&2 looking boards on the side of the canal. Mistral alphas and many without marking that I could distinguish from the boat. One a 7 day period I gues that I would have seen over 150 long boards. It totally spun me out and agitated me that I couldn't stop and check them out. I also saw a school/ rentals on a lake with about 10 boards out.
i had a great trip too. In Switzerland now.
I think it a great proposal and you guys have gone to a lot of effort.
I am tempted to grab one of the Cobra Lechner's just to have one but I have the Dobleman pictured above so I can't justify two.
Yes this is a good decision . Mine should be gone this morning so one only will remain...
There are 2 Reix, of which one Reix Pro, that I located while ago in QC...I'm wondering what owner wants to do with them..There is work to do but worth giving a look.
There is another Davidson located in the US that I was considering to bring back to QC...I would add it to the list.
Looks in great shape but mast track is missing. Can be replace easily..
I'll try to put some pics here of all these boards here later.
Guys,
It belong to you to have all these boards cleaned, bubble wrapped and loaded in a container en route to Sydney, Australia.....
Please those of you interested, raise your hand
Hand raised! I'd love to get one of the D2s you have. Maybe you can make it to the ECWF Cape Cod on September 16-17 this year and bring an extra D2?
