Do they have a magnet in them? If so - Could be based off the Mesmer principle.... also magnets on certain pressure points can be used to alleviate conditions etc... Chinese solders used to bleed kidney point one to help alleviate over heating so they could march all day...

Old is new again....

This was also a hot topic way back then.

from Wiki
"
Brock began publicly supporting and, eventually, began to fit to all Holden Dealer Team specials a device called the "Energy Polarizer" containing crystals and magnets that, it was claimed, improved the performance and handling of vehicles through "aligning the molecules".
The overwhelming majority of the Australian motoring community regarded the device as pseudoscience.[10] Brock also recommended tyre pressures of 22psi (150kPa) for his polariser-equipped vehicles, a level which many regarded as near-dangerously low. Holden, fearing the consequences of being associated with the device and a resulting breakdown in communications over Brock's plans for new models, cut ties with Brock and set up an alternative racing/modification operation, Holden Special Vehicles."

this is my point, if everyone abandons basic science in the search for alternate cures for all our ailments, and and the same time people are also prepared to kill endangered species in the hope to find that cure, then pretty quickly we have just wiped out an amazing species, which is whats happening.

Its a big relief that not everyone is so quickly fooled into believing the false claims of these frauds. Wether its harmless power bands, crystals or the more harmful Tiger balm and the refusal of modern medicine in favour of prayer.. Its all an abandonment of our claim as an intelligent species.

its 2010, science works, and there is such a thing as being so open minded your brain drops out.

You don't have kids do you? I'd kill all the rhinos if it meant saving one of my children, and I challenge any parent that wouldn't do the same.

How does a topic start about a joke bit of plastic turn into such serious moral debate

How many of your children would you sacrifice to get a power balance band, that's the real question?

How about a scientific test? Get your power band and get another one but modify it so it's not working. Maybe remove the hologram or something that disrupts the wave energy it taps into or whatever it does. Basically make it inoperable if that is possible. Then make the two indistinguable.

Go out windsurfing for two hours. One hour with each band. Then compare the results with the GPS and also feedback on how the sailing was. Its only through such a test we could establish whether a bit of plastic on your wrist helps you.

If they're indistinguable how will he know which one worked...

ahh then u dont disagree with poachers killing the Rhinos?, because they really believe they are the cure.

It is my opinion that the whole family Rhinocerotidae, is more valuable than a single bipedal hairless ape in the family Hominidae. After all there are 6.8 billion people in the world and every single one of them will kick the bucket oneday.. there is only one family of rhino.

Of course I disagree with poachers killing rhinos, there is no scientific backing to their claims, and i am a firm believer of science.

My argument is that if there was irrefutable evidence to prove that a rhino horn would cure cancer, and hence save my son I would choose the life of my son over that of the Rhino.

The issue here is that people believe in all sorts of rubbish that has no scientific merit. Rhino horn is just another example.

I am a skeptic, atheist and non-believer. So only scientific evidence that Rhino horn is a cure for cancer would cause me to kill one in order to save a member of my family.

But this is all hypothetical philosophical BS that only serves to prove that a persons morality is only relative to what we have at stake.

He won't know which is which but whoever is conducting the experiment will know. If you are on your own you could still do it as after sailing and measuring the results then you could find out which was the real power balance thingo.

Barn,

You have so much faith in science, but what does humanity have left when science fails us?

....Some faith, hope or a bit of belief....It's not such a bad thing.

Your science is just another greedy industry out to make as much money as it can, if that wasn't the case things like cancer drugs and treatments would be free, but they choose to feed of the pain and suffering of others.

As for the rhino, it comes down to what we as individuals find acceptable and to be honest if one rhino horn could save a hundred people I would find that acceptable. It may not be right but I could live with that sacrifice.

We all ride around on carbon fibre which pound for pound while being constructed release toxic gases into the environment but we find this acceptable.

Your science has killed far more people and animals then my power band ever will....

You cant back that up. Religion which is a product of faith in false idols has killed the most people in the world throughout all ages.

Science has saved more people than any messiah.

I think that praying on the naive and selling them a piece of rubber to help them do push loops pretty much takes the cake for scummy greed any day.

Blind faith does more harm than good. In the instance of this rubber band it may cause you to push the limits a bit further than you would have normally, and good on you if you pull it off, but what if you don't and do yourself some harm. Is the same as a child wearing a cape after watching superman or the boy who could fly and jumping on the roof. Its not harmless fun.

haha science does not kill anyone, yes science develops weapons (sword is shaper than stick= science).. but its not like science is some sort of unstoppable force like the machines from terminator!!

I dont need faith in science, its the scientific method and it just works, its a method of gathering cumulative empirical evidence.. I dont need any faith when I fly in a 747, because I know that western science put it together, using everything we have discovered over the last 500 years.. And the same scientific method that can keep a thousand tonne plane in the sky, or transplant a lung to a dying child is the same science that tells me that powerbands are just bits of plastic....

A little ironic claiming science (I assume you mean Big Pharma) is a greedy industry .. have u seen the profits of powerbands?.. They cannot give cancer drugs out for free because they cost billions to develop..

Well, is a hologram a hologram if it is in the dark?

Can he just cover the hologram in black electrical tape?

Which begs the question; do power bands work in the dark?

(All jokes aside, I would swap lots of powerbands for a month or two of sailing in Geraldton (in summer!) each year. I suspect it might be at least equivalent to wearing two powerbands as far as sailing skills went)

We have to apply scientific and engineering principles to these harmonic devices. Recall your Nyquist stability theorum. In some instances if a true harmonic stimulation is applied vibrations can lead to instability. Clearly Brocky had his device too finely tuned to the cars natural frequency resulting in a catastrophic case of instability. I think Muhamed Ali wears a highly tuned power band that leads to uncontrolled tremors. If these bands were precisely tuned to the individuals natural frequency we would see people starting to wave around like Peter Garrett before finally flailing their arms and legs off.....that would be indisputable evidence of the efficacy of the power band!!

OK, Thanks to science I've had my arms and legs re-attached and all is good.

As requested I've put the power balance band to the test today and the results speak for themselves. I've compared my session from yesterday with the band on to todays session without the band.

Thursdays session with the Power Balance band...

Date:.............07/10/2010
Boards:...........JP SLW 154L
Sails:............ NP Helium 8.5
Wind speed:....10-15knots
2 Sec:............22.2knots
5x10 Sec........20.52
Alpha 500.......13.39
Rider weight.....95kg

Awesome day on the water, blasting back and forth all day doing gybe after gybe, tack after tack in perfect balance.

Fridays session without the band...

Date:.............08/10/2010
Boards:...........JP FSW 112
Sails:............ NP ALPHA 6.2
Wind speed:....0 knots
2 Sec:............0.00 knots
5x10 Sec........0.00
Alpha 500.......0.00
Rider weight....98kg(a few beers last night)

Just couldn't get planning and kept falling off, My gybes were all very wobbly and I kept sinking the board in the tacks...Terrible day.

******My Scientific conclusion*******

Base on the results of this scientific test the Power balance band improved balance and also my power, My GPS files are available for any doubters out there.

Anyways I'm off to sacrifice a Panda as I've been told this will help me do forward loops....Now where did I put my snake oil...Oh there it is right next to my book on Scientology which happens to be under my ivory back scratcher....Oops I've just kicked over a bowl of ground up Rhinos horn because I tripped on a severed tigers penis.....I'm having a shocker, where did I put that power balance band.

Apparently this is a very old story (December last year)

The website/facebook page for the distributor both closed shop a while ago.

The bracelets are made in China for $1.17 and sold for $60.

There is no scientific proof, or any double-blind placebo tests performed on it.

This reminds me a bit of the book titled "The Secret" (see the Chaser sketch).

Cheers
