2.61 out, fixed polar recording bug when exiting session and speed up end of session stats
My last session:
Sail Racer Version 3.0 is released and still free in the connect iq store., now supports race starts. What you get - existing pre race countdown timer, with ability to update the countdown if slightly off by re-clicking start when the flag/gun drops. Above countdown is your speed to the nearest end if off the ends of the line. If sailing below the startline your VMG to the closest point is displayed. At the bottom of the screen is speed required directly to the nearest point of the line, to arrive at the nearest part of the line at time = zero. Concept, make the two speeds match and you will nail the start every time.Requires accurately setting wind axis in the start area through menu-set wind. Then a sail past both ends of the start line after entering race countdown mode. Watch will display " set start a", approaching 1 end , 1 boat length bellow the line click start. Then repeat at the other end of the line to " set start b". Then required speed will show once countdown started at the bottom. "req 2.5 kt", and boatspeed or VMG if downwind of the line at the top of the screen.
Enjoy!

Hey dachopper I just got a garmin forerunner 935 and downloaded sail racer no problems went straight to the activity list in the watch then watched your video guide, admittedly only once and it seems very complicated for me, it seems to cover every bit of data you could possibly want and more, this is my first attempt at using gps for sailing. I only really intend to record top 5/10 speeds per session, distance covered and maybe look at tracks on the map afterwards and want to be able to look at speed in real time,I only free ride not race, will the app be suitable for me or is it only for serious racers. I also downloaded one by TB wonder and it did not appear in the activity list like yours I've got no idea how to access it, your advice would be much appreciated, please forgive my ignorance I'm a bit technologically challenged.
mob dog, My program is a datafield, you need to add it to an existing "Activity" (Or create a new activity).
There are plenty of instruction vids on Youtube. Perhaps this one

No worries, if you downloaded it from garmin, you need to open garmin express, and plug your watch in and that will automatically load the app to your watch.
It has a load of features, but its free and basic to use, so I'd suggest trying it, later on if you want more out of it look in the main menu or its fairly intuitive for the basic functions

Thanks for that, I see the difference between data field and app, now it makes sense, all good now.
Nice application and guide on topic, I didn't experience yet, but I'm looking to test and experience myself? It's working well with android smartwatches? Wanted to buy recently from Sony, as great news appeared new Sony Xperia 5 Mark 2 appeared and before middle October it will for sale in Europe, Italy. Never mind, will buy flagman from Huawei or Samsung then and will tell later how this app works. Will recommend to use Instagram for marketing purposes and expand your customers of fans to say it simple. famoid.com/buy-instagram-likes/ will be a great solution to gain new subscribers via new many likes on your products and content. Good luck with personal buisness goals.
:) No worries, but this app is only available on Garmin.
If there is something by the same name for Android or IOS, it's not mine ;)

It's such a strange story as it seems to be the most affordable service on the market
Well... My watch app is free, but meant to be a lot more mobile than needing a phone or other equipment on you.
Having said that 35 Euro's a year might not be bad, They don't offer it on garmin watches though.
Version 3.2 now out, Race Countdown auto screen sequence upgrade - will take you directly to the start line waypoint drop screen and out again

Hi dachopper,
This looks like an amazing app and it's great to see that you are maintaining it so actively. I just got a Forerunner 935 and this is the first app I downloaded, can't wait to try it out! By the way, the polar file thing work fine on macs too, I ended up creating a TXT file for every PRG file I had and watch which one was getting updated...
Not a criticism but one minor thing for the roadmap perhaps regarding the wind speed setting:
- It feels a bit sensitive to wrist movement and I noticed that the range is -5 to 174knots. I doubt anyone will be setting his watch on the beach beyond 100knots, I would certainly be looking for shelter at that point . Would it be possible to reduce the range to something still fairly wide like 0/50knots so each degree of wrist rotations leads to a smaller change in speed? Either that or allow to overwrite the value using the watch's up/down buttons? [Edit: After some further tries, I noticed that the watch initialises at 20knots in the direction it's in when the app is launched (which is fine). Then this speed is allowed to go down by something like 1knot for every 2deg of rotation until it reaches what seems to be True South even if this means a negative speed. If you continue turning in the same direction, it jumps up by 180knots and continues to reduce back down to 20knots when the full circle is completed]
- I did some research to try to find some wind speed widgets and a few of them seem to use the OpenWeatherMap API. Longer term, would you consider using this to read the wind speed automatically and more accurately? Or is this only possible in a Widget? Again, this will only work of the watch is within range and could therefore only be used during initial app launch.
Actually, side digression while I'm at it, would anyone know any good watch face or widget to show current wind and forecast at a given weather station similar to the info we can get from Seabreeze but on the watch? I've installed a couple of apps using the OpenWeatherMap with the API key. They work fine but only tell me then wind speed in my current location which I already know since I'm there. I'd be more interested in the wind speed on the river/coast at various sailing spots...
