I for one have never sailed on anything that could be considered 'pure'!
Typically seawater is of at least 2.5% higher density than fresh water, fresh water does not equal pure water either, pure water is obtainable only by steam distillation or by using an expensive laboratory millipore water system.

Thats right DrJ, finally somebody is showing some respect. The important thing here is that nobodies beliefs are offended, especially mine. Nobody has the right to question my belief that surface area directly effects volume - ever.
I think I get it now. Did some research. Buoyant force is equal to the weight of the liquid an object displaces. If fresh water is 1g/m3 or 1kg/L then a 100L board (whatever it is made of) will have a buoyant force to support 100kg (just). So if you take a modern board like a Fanatic Ray 110 and an old board like the Bombora Xit - both are 110L volume and will displace the same weight of water but the Ray weighs 6.5kg and the Xit 10Kg hence a 90kg person will have a combined weigh of 100Kg on the Xit meaning that they will not float as well as on the Ray. Combine that with the fact that the modern boards have more effective surface area and have redistributed the volume to the rear then they "feel" like they float better. Thanks
so your saying that if i got an old board of 100 litres and trying it against a newer more developed board with more research and better materials will float the same.... [}:)][}:)][}:)]
