Neil Pryde Bikes will initially be releasing 2 high performance road bikes in August, who knows what they will develop if sales take off...
The bikes would want to be stronger than their WS gear!
Using my extensive library of NP broken booms & masts, I could form up a cool bike frame...not that I'd ride it!
[not sure if I can say that here or not?]
Well Severne did the best non windsurfing product EVER done by a windsurf company...... never to be beaten
A bottle opener with every sail.
I'd prefer it if Shimano got into windsurfers, rather than NP getting into bikes.
Without wanting to be unfair to a sport I love, I think Shimano etc are better at making gear that is workable and efficient. Of course, they are dealing with a much bigger market, but it seems to me that something like a Time Trial bike (equivalent to a Formula board in some ways) goes together a lot more easily than most performance boards. Of course, it's hard to compare rigging up a race sail to chucking wheels on a TT bike before a comp, and boards don't suffer from salt, but I still get the feeling the bike stuff works better.
Of course, even the TdF bikes are also under a lot of rules that make them easier to own at the cost of a drastic performance drop, but Shimano seem to support that and it doesn't seem to hurt cycling.
PS BMW have done bikes that look pretty standard..... dunno why they'd be better at bike design than bike design companies.
umm chris,
the flyfishing world is shocked that shimano has purchased gloomis rods (a supposed premium flagship brand) and seem to be downtuning them to mass produced junk.
your info is.....?
Can't be too hard it's just like making a bunch of RDM masts right???
Or 530 x9 time bombs.... err masts
I hope they make some 80s themed BMXs.. that match the old Combat wave sails, with plastic spokes and red tyres.
Fairly hard market to crack into I reckon. The road bike market from my perspective is broken into two categories, those bikes which have the name and the history (Conalgo etal)such that people will pay enormous amounts of money to ride them and bikes that offer much more value for money (Giant etc).
NP don't have the history of Conalgo to attract the brand snob or the market power of Giant enabling insane value so i'm not really sure where they will fit in. Unless they come up with a very unique product which is almost impossible to do in road bikes these days I don't really see it amounting to much.
I'm not sure, but i think NP already make bikes for other brands? Maybe someone else knows more about this than me?
I know this interview was posted a while ago but it does give some background to the decision making at NP.
I would also guess their Carbon fiber factory is making bike frames and/or fishing rod ski pole sections just like fiberspar, triana and excel are.
Actually if you check out triana's website you'll see they have quite a good range of rods and no distributor in Australia!
True, it depends on how far they want to push it though especially in regards to marketing & team costs. Tunnel time isn't really required given cfd is so good now (it looks flash & makes good techno photos though).
Cervelo's r&d team still doesnt seem that big considering the unit's sold would be alot higher. Mould's wise, well pryde is in a great position there- 2011 pryde's could be 2012 Scott's etc
well... looks like those of you that would buy the bike if BMW had something to do with it can buy go out and buy it. According to this article the Neil Pryde bikes where co-developed with the BMW design studio:

yer your right swoosh, ignorant that I didnt include comments such as... "having studied cfd"? . But I guess I only saw a brief glimpse of it (as with many fields), I should stand corrected by someone that works everyday with it.
Using REAL riders in wind tunnel applications is a precise science huh, what with all the cameras they have around showing their wind tunnel testing- wouldnt possibly be used as an advertising opportunity . Yes tunnels are a good validation tool, a great advertising tool, essential... no (as opposed to cfd analysis). I never argued against that when done right the data from tunnels exceeds anything that can currently be achieved by cfd.
Broad sweeping statements- hardly. But hey it's an internet discussion, if I wanted to really get in depth with a subject I wouldnt be talking about it with a bunch of anonymous windsurfers. If my comments s*** you so much maybe you should think the same .
