best map I could find showing the location of the port - looks to be about 5K south of Coronations.

only 110 posts so im defo a real windsurfer. GWC did more than enough. Id personally rather accept noble defeat and go windsurfing at the next beach than chain myself up in front of a bulldozer like some uncompromising wannabe windsurf martyr.

Sounds like good progress, but What's wrong with hauling in to the wharf in Geraldton? Not sure if this sounds like it really will be done - the promo is not totally believable.

If we were happy to sit under a tree and eat yams and witchetty grubs for tea each night we could get by with less holes in the ground and less ports to ship it from.
It would also then give us more time to complain about how we were not taking advantage of the natural resources that we have.
Everything in life is a compromise.

Happy to compromise. Perfectly happy to live under a tree and eat yams if it means that Australia can keep all its Corros.

How many windsurfers are not at their happiest camping at some awesome spot like Corros with little more than the clothes on their back and their windsurfing gear?

Who would trade that for a flash lifestyle and a bunch of stuff we don't really need?

All the money in the world is nothing compared to one awesome day at a spot like Corros.

(If I stay under 100 posts am I still a real windsurfer? )

The Geraldton port has just been upgraded with
shipping channel COSTING $$$$$ A NEW New Railway
New ship loader ,,,,etc
2 new huge sheds are being built at the Geraldton wharf a 3 on the way ????
Pluss all the area around pointmore could be used for more storage of product.

There is a couple of New players KARA approved AND THE EXPANSION OF stage to wells range.
OK
Barnett on radio this morning has just now refused to do anything about assisting infastructure to increase product with the existing geraldton port and said every cent will be spent to get Oakagee up and running.

REALLY WHY ..............whats up ?

Thats great BANKABLE STUDY HAS ESTIMATED IT TO BE
4.37 billion oh plus of minus 15%

Sorry this is a project for the top end of town and china

aND THERE will be some HUGE WINNER $$$$ AND MASSIVE LOOSERS $$$$$

Most importantly at the cost of the people whom have the wisdom and real knowlegge of the area ,people whom have riden its waves , felt and Know the swell surge ,and seen it flood and fished the zone.

4.37 BILLION .................MMMMMMMMMM AND THE ALLOCATION FOR Geraldton direct and for say COASTAL
Rehab ....................is i.e replacement wave ?

Huge project ok long term positive project ,but as was pointed out 10 years ago ........ wrong location ....its the best bit of coast for offshore reefs and swell.

sorry Mr barnett you failed with Kingstream now you going to just trying to prove a point .

Your paying W.A tax payers

Bring on a new 4.37 Billion dollar left and right hander

Geraldton port couldn't handle a fraction of the proposed volume of iron ore and isn't big enough or deep enough to accommodate cape size ships. Iron ore stock piles would need to be open air for the reclaimers to operate and that's not going to happen.

Cranky ..............your right ........its , massive ,messy and distructive but hey

GO BIG or go home oh well ,,, to bad ,,,The next generation will we dealing with it.
And that aint going to be a world class Recreational /windsurfing / boating fishing location.

Would have been nice with a house up that way.

But hey 100,000 POPUTATION in 50 Years can live inland MT Magnet Way over summer .

The wave potential and swell out come will be judge and delivered back to us by god and hue ........ 500m dragon spitting, surfing barrel , fingers crossed

The fear with expanding the Gero port to much is that as they already have the infrastructure in place then maybe they would look a little closer at their mid 90's feasibility study into building the deep water port off Point Moore, never you say!
My money is on the average non ocean going Geraldtonian not caring either way as long as they get a K mart, Big W a couple more maccas, another cinema and a bigger beer garden at the speedway.

Couple of thoughts

The kiteforum has a post claiming they are looking to also export uranium thru Oakagee. I asked the fella to posta source but no reply so has anyone heard of that oen yet?
If they did that it would stuff Corro's as there would be a massive exclusion zone around the port.

there a a couple of companies making big claims about how they are going to get Yileerie up and running. its inland , towards Mt kieth and Sandstone.
WMC did some trials there in he late 70's but dropped it when faced with the 3 mine policy of the federal govt. . currently they dont have a port to export from and they are trying to sweet talk a port into letting them go through. . Given that Geraldton is a really tough place to get your minerals through, I dont fancy the chances. Lead concentrates from the pilbara are currently roaded over to SA , since the lead scare in Esperence. Nickel concentrates from Radio Hill in the Pilbara went all the way to esperence too. Maybe thats why Okagee is being built.

Gee Westhammer. You certainly sound like the right guy to handle the diplomatic side of it.
Have you offered your services to the GWC?

If there is a buck to be made it's almost a guarantee they will take it to the cleaners... especially if you are "part of the management group that runs the company and your brother is the WA premier" (as someone has pointed out in a thread about this topic in the past)

It's easy to be an armchair greenie and be opposed to everything when you enjoy the benefits of living in a rich, stable, well governed liberal western democracy with a free press, powerful independent judiciary, reserve bank etc.

No doubt you are not opposed to the standards of health, education, welfare, law enforcement, infrastructure, defence etc. which are all supported by our economy.

If you want to be taken at all seriously, then propose a viable alternative.

Naahh. In a thousand years all the iron ore and uranium and dilithium crystals will have been mined out years before.
The port will have eroded to a pile rocks and can be bulldozed back into the ocean to make some wicked reef breaks from spot X up to south coros.
It's all good Bob.

^^^^ That and control, it's all about who will control the port and access to it.
Existing port, existing controls, new port, new ball game.
