Always wanted a SPEED SR250L. Came across SPEED FORMULA ONE. Board has different mastrack setup to SR250L. US finbox.

Are they a good board? Should finbox be changed to PB/ Tuttle etc? Any idea of weight, volume?
Thanks guys.

Here are some weights taken up at lake a few years ago

Weights 29/1214
f2 lightnings
16.2 17.6 17.4
Speed 250 white model 19.4
Starboard Phantom 17.4 Kg

fin box on the two speed 250 I've seen has been problematic and needed repairs - could be an age an abuse problem

my f2 has been changed to power box

if your fin box is solid probably best to leave alone unless you want to play with bigger fins

cheers Jeff

Anyone recommend a good sailboard repairer around sunny coast/ brisbane area that would do finbox upgrade n regrip deck? Im yet to physically check the board. Photos look ok.But would expect the usual damage to rail edges, centreboard etc.

GREAT Board That mast track will slide right back & lock the center board in the UP posi dam good idea as you bounce your way over the chop on a broad reach, it then rides like a slalom board with a super long nose But beware if you really hit hard over a wave it can bounce the locking pin down, mast track slides forward, center board down sailor tits up but I cant imagine you survival sailing it in 20' swell Back on the mast track beware of the stainless wire wearing a grove in the little pulleys, fiddly to replace either the wire or pulleys.

Volume he made traditionally 250L but I have a white one that is 270L, that needs mast track parts

Enjoy the board

Hi mate don,t touch the fin box until you are sure it will not work, these boards worked fine with smaller fins.going on the picture they seem to have the sr250 shape on the deck and rails, not sure about the bottom as the sr250 l had four concave,s .better footstraps to

I would also leave the fin box alone. Those boards are for sub planing and railing upwind with the dagger board down. Not so much lawn mowing.

Ok a couple more Qs.1. It came with a precambrian looking Multifin canard setup. Do i ditch it n find a US box 34-39cm pointer fin?

2. Centreboard has alloy either side at pivot area. Is this normal?

Lucky bugger!!! I was told that this was the last one made, and that it has more volume and the bigger centerboard.
I found out because I was looking for the bigger centerboard for an SR250L that I'm going to give some attention to.
Good score!!!

Not sure if that's the original centerboard or mast track. I think I was told that model is a hard find, and so too is the centerboard.

I'm lead to believe that the board in this photo may have been the last of the silver series, and sometimes referred to as a series 2 around Canberra at the time. I was also told that the white centerboard was probably from the later Formula One (your board). I tried an F2 carbon one in my board,(SR250L), and it was slightly too long (maybe 10mm), but the pivot point could have been moved to fix it. I wonder if that is what someone has done there to a different centerboard?

Now I'm starting to wonder. Your's doesn't seem to have a slot for the pivot point.
Need someone else to jump in on this one. I'm anxious to find out too??

Another seabreezer said that the mastrack is the worst used on Speeds boards. Lever each side so it can be easily accessible either tack. Will see how 20+ years of use n abuse has effected it & centreboard wear.

Grich62 , have you modified mastrack block to fit chinook style UJ connection? Just drill it out?I have original Speed pin. But itd be better if all my bases were interchangeable.

only modified the old type not the formula type, best to use the standard pin if you got one, set it up with a euro pin if you use those type of extensions and only use it on the speed boards you own.

That`s mine, love sailing it. The fin box is still perfectly fine. I tend to use the smaller centreboard as it seems sufficient when sailing.

Here is a picture of the original centre board cassette, It is a grey plastic material. Also shown is a light wind fin for the board, lower aspect than current fins so didn't load up the fin box area as much. We didn't see many fin box problems back in the day, higher aspect fins really load up the fin box area. We used the H16 in light stuff and dropped fin sizes as the wind picked up.
One area to watch on these boards is cracking in the centreboard cassette area, a lot of load here and some boards were glassed a bit light there.

So ive gathered a little more info. Formula One board is apparently higher volume than SR250L. Have heard maybe around 270 litres. Bit more volume at rear of board. Anyone in the know? Hard to find info

Can't wait for it to get here. Board doesn't give anywhere near that great railing feeling that I remember.
Also as mentioned above by the other guy's, I can compare fin size/performance properly. (Sorry different thread).
Good thing the fin in the photo is also coming.
Board is no good without adjustable mast track either.
Now I'm more suitably inspired to restore it.
