If you have an iphone there is a wind meter you can download for about a dollar.

I was out one day with a few guys and one brough a weather station and the other had the iphone.

There was no difference in the readings which goes to show that the iphone is the is todays equivilent of the swiss army knife.

Here's a screenshot:

I thought I had seen people doing that, but wondered how it worked. Probably detects wind noise in the microphone and converts it.

That's right! Mapping and speed. One stop shop. Omce you go iPhone you will never go back. It's not even that expensive. Free on a $39 cap plan! I have a water proof case for mine and take it windsurfing with me all the time. Sometime when I'm out I'll even take the odd pic. You can take som amazing picks from about a 1km out on the water! The software even records your gps coords when you take the pick and you can reference them by locations on googlemaps!

Not to turn into an Apple thread, but I had the chance to get an iPhone not too long ago, and without even looking at it, turned my nose up.
Now I have a Mac, and the wifelet has an iPad, I'm starting to regret that decision. The technology is amazing.
Never mind, next time. Stuck with a basic phone for 2 years now.

I know what you mean. All my mates around me were getting them and I was stuck in a plan. Jokes on them though becuase I had to wait and got the 3GS and they were all stuck in plans with the gen 1!

I was just turned off by the ad "there's an app for that".
I know, I was being a reactionary stuffy old fart.
I'm not really anti-technology, but so much stuff seems to be a complex solution to a non-existent problem these days, and I put it in that bag.
I still have no use for Internet on my phone though and the anemomoeter only cost me $50 from ebay.

Internet on a phone? No use for email seabreeze anywhere you are, even in the toilet where your wife will not catch you;) up to date weather and news at your fingertips. Sports? Man, I had a basic old nokia before this and this has changed my life. Gone are the days of sitting behind the pc an being anti social.

Problem is you can learn to be so dependant on the thing that you get seperation anxiety.

NUP. i get few emails, don't have to worry about hiding form the missus, don't read news or follow sport or watch stocks/shares etc.
I'm a drop-out with a job.
Have a computer in front of me all day at work, and a lappie for home, and am quite happy to be separated at other times.
Genuinely no use for Internet on teh phone.
I did buy a USB modem for my Mac yesterday so I can talk to the missus while I'm away for the next 2 weeks, so what more do I need ??
