This is so funny. I started windsurfing in the last season and i bought 2 board randomly because i got them very cheap. Then, i knew nothing about boards. I bought a diamond head and a sputnik limited edition(purple) with ART footstraps. The sputnik was 20euros and the diamond head with 2 masts 5 booms and 4 sails maybe 100eur. ! booms and masts are still usable and not very old ones and 1 sail.
PS.: The sputnik limited 85L is number 222
Aus 1111 - has the fastest board ive ever ridden the 2016 Manta 106 litre.
Best board if I could only own one - Patrik 110 hollow.
Tabou 3S 116 is pretty close. Big enough for uphauling my 90 kg ass comfortably, but small enough to sink to tail for waterstarting. Does well in small waves and flat water and still survivable in big waves. Massive sail range also.
Tabou Thunder looked like it was battered badly by the ugly stick but absolutely awesome board to ride
Only boards I truly regret parting with
Next JP SLW, the big girl always puts a smile on my face.
Mistral Flow 276, great alrounder
JP Speed 54 ( a bit light in volume for my fat arse nut once going is a pleasure to ride.
The best sailboard I have ever sailed was the Mistral Diamond Head. It worked well with a 32cm plus trapezoid fin and 5-6m sails. Came out in the 85/86 Season and was Robbie Naish's Slalom board. Superb!
My best ever is also the early Mistral Diamondhead like the photo, epoxy board 110litres, the sail was crap, in late 80's had a Simmerstyle 66sqft for 12-25 knots. Have a Diamondhead in storage in Australia, been there since Jan 2000. Look forward to reuniting with it.
Carbon Art SL52
Yep, best board ever. J&B , cruising or flat out speed sailing. Can do it all
Patrik F-Ride 155L
Most versatile board I own
Magic in light wind with a big sail - comfort machine, gybes sooo easy
Small sail and small fin in high wind - no problems, never ever had it lift out of the water
Too light at Coros, chuck on a 5.3 and go play in the waves
Has anyone else noticed that boards with quite square walls are more difficult to get out of the straps to initiate a gybe?
All my favourite slalom board tend to have very square walls where the strap is. I guess it makes the board faster but at a price.
Only tried two slalom boards that were shaped more wave board style with a shallower contour and I rarely if ever have a problem releasing my back foot especially.
The 2011 X Fire 102 has a much shallower contour if measured from the bottom of the rail and I can get in and out of the stars without thinking about it. Downside - it feels a slow board.
The board that I love most for unrestricted waveriding is my JP ultimate wave 69l. It turns on a dime and has masses of control. It's perfectly refined. But it needs a lot of rider input or epic conditions - and both if you want it to really let loose!
But the most fun board for all conditions I've sailed is the Severne Nuevo, 73l and 80l. It's supremely playful, loose and feels so dang surfy and fun. But at the same time it's not skatey or uncontrolled; it's extremely controlled when it's windy. It's just a crazy fun board to ride. So big up to Werner Gnigler at JP for making the most epic board (to me) and a big up to James Hooper for make the most fun board (to me)
Formula Board. Starboard 162.
Light wind, flat water with an 8.5
..puts a smile on the face every time.

How much do you weigh? They are extremely small volume boards.

I was 62kg the last time I sailed the Nuevo but I've been hovering around 68-70kg for the last few months, so the 69 JP is pretty much perfect for me in most conditions.
