Hey Mark,
Check this thread out to see how most kiters see right of way in waves

the art of good tak
king of the points name is on stay away the boat crew is comen to town weisle
AT THE END OF THE DAY, KING OF THE POINT OWNS IT BRO, WHEN HE COMES ALONG, YOU GET OUT OF DA WAY OR HIS MUMA WILL COME BY AND SPANK YAS ALL, LOVE YOU KING OF THE POINT, YOUR DA MAN, YOUR THE HISSING DRAGON, YOU ROCK ON SON
The guys who invented the technology were kite nerds and nasa rocket scientists. None of that is relevant o behaviour in the surf.
The guys who got kiting to where it is today are people like Robbie Naish and Laird Hamilton and Manu Bertin and the rest of the Maui windsurf crew. They worked out how to go upwind and took kites into the surf.
bottom line indeed 'behaviour in the surf' just saw a comp between surfers at Margaret river on Starsports cable and these 2 guys were claiming fiercly for a wave they were actually shoving each other off-incredible! i guess the other thing that fuels this strange but often debate is the amount of space a kiter covers and the reaction time in case of a mishap and most often than not close to a windsurfer..being a kiter too i do try really stay downwind and a lot upwind if am not windsurfing with fellow mates since i know if i make one mistake it's 25mtrs of line plus another for pull on the power window and any person around that is in a lot of trouble sailor or not..plus the skill level thing when a kiter gets better the complacency same as a sailor gets bolder jumping or gybing nearer to obstacles and people..just my opinion no-one else's
OK for the 1st time in yooonks I popped over to the pole side to check things out. Didn't take me long to find an anti-kiter thread. I'm not surprised TBH.
I have to say that not all teabaggers are w@nkers.. granted there are quite a few, but then there are some todgers hanging off poles too. I don't assume that weener is the average poley - or human being for that matter.
Generally I like to avachat to poleys as they are mostly laid back and unassuming. They are often surprised that a kiter bothers to shoot the breeze with em and ask how their sesh went. That is a shame. Really we should have more in common than not. Yep - the differant tacks/lines do get a bit tricky but the mocean is pretty big.
Don't make the mistake of thinking all teabaggers are coonts - observe the individual's behaviour 1st. If they acting the selfish goose then by all means give a triple racing stripe after running em over . If not say g'day and avachat (talk slowly tho ).
your still not seeing it.
The coments like in the original post that started all this, "If you see 10 windsurfers turn up,,,use your brains and Fu#k Off"
Of course there will be negitive posts from kiters.Stirring you up saying we will just drop in on you or what ever.
If that was said in the kiters forum telling the polers to **** off when we turn up,then there would be stirrers posting back.
Comments like the one above and the endless others, di@kheads,Sh@t for brains, gay, bla bla bla are probly the reason you apparently get abused when you try and tell them what to do. Maybe try and get to know the locals, talk and have a chat at other times other than just when you have a complaint?
Is it all young kiters you have a problem with?
You always say "young knobjockeys" etc.
Its maybe a generation gap thing??? Not that they are kiters, but that an older person is telling them what to do even if you maybe right???
Im probly wrong,happends sometimes.Just a thought.
Lotofwind I am not referring to this thread exclusively. For example months ago I posted a thread regarding a spot in Perth where there has been segregation for years with kiters at one end of the beach and polies at the other. Suddenly the kiters started to mix in causing onwater incidents which were not pretty. I politely posted a thread here and was told we were useless, need to join the new millenium and they'd take all our waves and cut us off just cos they can.
I have posted other threads politely reminding kiters of the ROW rules and "1st on the wave owns it", and largely been abused or ridiculed by kiters (we'll take your waves cos we can etc"
You may disagree but in 17yrs of windsurfing I have been dropped in on rarely by windsurfers but in the last 5yrs repeatedly every single session by kiters. Maybe KOTP is the same and that is why his original post in this thread was worded so strongly.
Eventually you get sick of polite reminders re: ROW rules and then you up the ante and use strong language.
You'll also notice I am not here using the abusive language you refer to. My only reference usuing such is where I aksed why don't the responsible kiters give the D.H's a serve - now why don't they Mr Lotofwind?
