The windsurfing industry is it's own worst enemy - an annual push to manufacture a different range Of everything just means a gamble for importers - I don't know what the answer is but it seems stupid that not even half way thru 2011the 2011 gear is out of date and second hand values are less than half retail - if no one imports then hopefully the customs from local board shapers will be the flavour of the month cause there making some great boards
Does anyone else find it ironic that an Oz company like SB may not have an Oz importer ?
Not sure why Starboard themselves don't handle that. Maybe they will.
Guys,
There will be an announcement in the next few weeks about the new distributor and also details of the 2012 ranges, which both look fantastic.
In the meantime I can assure you that Severne Sails and Starboard Windsurfing is going to have a strong presence in Australia for the coming seasons and the team will be growing not shrinking.
The other good news for those that don't want to spend the money on the latest gear. Auswind has a heap of new superceded gear, with a full warranty that need to be cleared at second hand prices, so check out the deals at:-

For those that missed the announcment last week:-
"Auswind has been Australia's premier windsurfing distributor for many years. We have always supported our retail network with a high level of service, good stock levels, demo programs, great supply of brochures and after sales service. However, there have been many changes in Windsurfing distribution over the last few seasons, which has led to a reduced demand for products stocked and distributed in a traditional manner.
Considering the above points and a number of others, Auswind has decided not to continue with distributing Severne Sails and Starboard Windsurfing into the 2012 season, but to concentrate on Flying Objects, Starboard Stand Up Paddle and Airush Kitesurfing products. This has not been an easy decision to make, as we have been distributing Starboard since 1999 and Severne from its beginning. We continue to have a very close association with Starboard Windsurf and Severne Sales and wish them all the best for the future and will continue to help them were ever possible.

A society in which you could only choose between a couple of different board design, because it would make windsurfing gear so much cheaper. It sounds like communism to me…..and that wasn't very successful.
What would be the windsurfing equivalent of the Russian Trabant.
The Trabant equivalent of a Quad fin
The Trabant equivalent of the RSX
The Trabant equivalent of a Tabou

I am not suggesting there is anything wrong with either Starboard or Severn, simple stating that if there is demand and IF severn and starboard wish to have market representation in Australia they will find a supplier, and whom that turns out to be does not bother me in the least, because should I decide to buy either I will still go to my local shop... which seems to be able to get hold of pretty much anything.
So my true response to the question posed really is "who cares? if its not one it will be another"
Hows the holiday?
