Xmas Party (Sunday Dec 30th)
- The xmas party is only 4 days away and is planned to be a bumper meet. ??Kernow Garden Care?? (a new sunshine coast sponsor) has come onboard to sponsor the BBQ while the sponsors from throughout the year have sent in heaps of excellent gear for presents. The party is being held in Brisbane this year and regardless of wind will go ahead on the date nominated. To make the most of whatever conditions we get we are watching 2 locations. Either Victoria point if the wind is southerly or Wellington point is the wind is northerly.
I have planned a large event with lots to do for all .
1.The BBQ sponsored by Kernow garden care
2.A mast measuring rig to test our gear
3.Landsailers for everyone to use
4.Beginners gear for learners (wind permitting)
5.The lorch production speed board that did 42knots at sandy point will visit the meet
6.Also Santa has provided big time with kids rig from Starboard for the club??s library.
The presents (giveaways)
7.A Gun Boom and a Loft quiver bag from windsurfing sales
8.The club members packs with a dvd of aussie action and stickers from all the sponsors.
9.Merchandise from Caloundra wind & surf
10.Miniature battery powered windsurfers for the kids
The day will hopefully provide something for everyone. The conditions will see a high tide around 2pm and the current forecast is for 30-35 knots. so the plan is to get the day underway a little earlier with the start planned for 12 noon. Could everyone coming please email me so I can work out catering needs.
Women in Windsurfing meet (Saturday Jan 12th)
- After taking the decision to postpone the women??s day based on weather I set about re-scheduling. So the meet is now penned in for jan 12th.
So once more planned for the day is
1.The BBQ sponsored by Starboard.
2.Starboard womens giveaways. (3 long sleeve wetshirts)
3.Beginners gear and how too??s about windsurfing
Because of the rescheduling the date will not be changed. The event will be at Redcliffe and the venue will be Pelican park if a southerly or Queens beach north if Northerly. Could all those wanting to borrow beginners gear or lesson please email me so I can cater to numbers. Please tell your friends and drag them all along. ??
We have an afternoon high tide on the day.
Formula 2008 Australia meet (Friday Jan 25th)
- For something a little different we are having a Friday meet and joining in at the 2008 FW Australia and Oceanics competition. Friday will be the last day of racing and we are sure to get to witness some of the best sailors in the world ripping up redcliffe. The meet will be at Sutton??s Beach. Start time to be confirmed so we can see all of the action. The website for the event is http://www.fw-australia.com/ . check out the website to see all of the details.
Then in February we are off to the Gold Coast for a Freestyle meet.
Justin, hope youve got a rescue boat on hand for those beginners
taken from the BOM:
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
The high over the Tasman Sea will continue to move eastwards while slowly
weakening. The upper trough over the south-west of the state will move eastwards
and move mostly off the coast on Friday. From late Thursday onwards the upper
trough will amplify and induce a low at the surface off the central coast of
Qld. This low will then move slowly southwards during the weekend while
deepening and could potentially develop into a cyclone.
WOW! the forecast is lookin good. may even be lookin too good. will need a 3.5m sail most likely nd the smallest i got is my trusty 5.3. i am starting to get flash backs to last year's xmas party where we all huddled behind a bbq as a mini cyclone/storm flattened Cootharaba.
must be a WindWanderers Xmas thing.
yeah eggs, not to nice for the beginners. i also don't think i will encourage anyone sailing out to the bank. to risky to sail out of sight in 40 knot winds. (ok Vando )
see you there swoosh, cheers mate. along the beach is a blast in good wind at high tide. direct onshore wind and nice chop.
smallest sail we have is a 5.0m sailworks i think it was.
not listed at the moment cause i have been slack.
Its going to be 30 gusting to about 40. It'll be high tide so the speed strip wont be working. However the wind will be a little lighter out there so it might be the place for a quieter life.
We're all going to hide behind our cars and watch the snoggers blow off the barby.
tomorrow is all go at Victoria point for an official "12 Noon" kick off.
high tide is 2pm so there will be plenty of water.
everything originally planned is still happening. obviously with the wind strength beginners will be destined to watch and/or hang out at the bbq.
so all the giveaways are ready,
the members packs are ready,
i got at least 3 landsailors
there will also be some kit there if people want to take a spin.
and of course the food is all sorted
so far the numbers are good. lots of people have emailed me. i also sailed there today and let some of the locals know what the plan is. they were pretty excited as well.
i'll be there early and a couple of other guys will also be there early to take advantage of the morning low tide. today was 20-25 knots southerly. tomorrow is looking just as good at this stage and seabreeze and the BOM are all saying 25-35 knots.
see you all there.
for goldcoastmoz
edit - map link timed out sorry
at the end of thompson st, north eastern end of eagle st
forgot to mention.http://www.windwanderers.com/Locations.html for information on location. click on Victoria Point when the map comes up. then click the street map thumbnail for more detail.
a quick way for the goldcoast people to ge there is to go along freeway
take beenleigh redland bay road exit from freeway
turn left into mount cotton road
turn right onto double jump road
then onto bunker road
through lights to colburn Ave
then right into thomson st
then right into eagle street.
I will head down there for a look, haven't met many of you guys so will be good to make contact.
I most likely will be sailing there early tomorrow to try to get in before the wind strength goes beyond my gear.
I'll hopefully be there around 8.30, want to get some runs in on the bank while tide is low and wind isn't mental.
Thanks Gestalt and Haircut !
now i know how to get there! Just negotiating with the boss for permission to go !
cheers
GCMOZ
see everyone on the water.
the weather here is blue sunny skies and 25-35 knots of wind
i'm just walking out the door now.
stay safe.
cheers
Justin.
Can I attend by proxy? Please?
There's one question I wanted to ask:
Q: Hey Gestalt, have you taken your new speed machine out yet? How did it go?
you scared me - i thought it was 50 knots but it was only 49!!
Wonder if it will crack 50 later today!
Quite a good spot to sail even in 35+ knots.
Had fun but i forgot to put in a can of HARDEN UP and i had to go early
cheers
